Be really interested to know what they do. I guess they drop the subframe a bit - same as for the top lambdas? Which I'd also love a "how to" to file away for future reference.

Seems to be a lot of different costs being thrown around here for the engine out/in

1 month ago Audi Main dealer quoted me just over £1450 inclusive of VAT for an engine out and refit job for an EGT sensor. I would guess the sensor is over £300 so that leaves just over 1 standard rs6 unit in labour. Cheap if you ask me.....I spent more on 4 tyres and front discs and pads

Hmm. On on axle stands, jacks and an engine crane, working solo, it takes me the best part of a weekend to pull the motor out, and the same to put it back in again. OK, so a lift makes things a sh!t load easier to do all the underneath stuff. But would I do out & in again for a grand - feck that. Especially as people'd expect a warranty on it too. I'd actually happily pay someone a grand! AND - you've only gotta miss 1 copper washer being torqued up correctly and it doesn't seal and the whole fecking lot has to come out again. To be fair, I was getting pretty quick at it by the end. It's not a hard job, it's just there's a whole lot that needs doing and all the crap jobs involve lying on your back trying to free a corroded or seized bolt!

Plus AC recharge, plus lost fluids, plus geometry.

A grand from a dealer is incredibly cheap. I'd definitely rather do that than attempt it myself.

I would like to see a written quote from an Audi dealer that states the entire engine/drivetrain is removed for an EGT sensor !!!

And even more so if they can do it for £1450 Inc Vat then Im happy to get them to do ALL V8 Audis we have in that require such work !!! lolol

I heard it with my own ears and I have the quote in our history folder.

The only way the dealers change the EGT's is to remove the engine. That's what the book tells them to do, so they won't attempt any other way. If I remember the breakdown, they charge around £90 per hour because the car is over a certain number of years old, plus parts and vat.

I've got a spare pair of BNIB EGT's in my "stock" - but I'm fkkn dreading the day I have to do them. Fortunately the in-situ ones seem OK so far.

I've currently got the car at PSI tuning who are changing the rack in situ which is a relief to the bank balance. They have got it down to 6 hours labour having carried out a few.
I'll let you know how I get on as they seem really helpful and are looking at a few other jobs I had on the back burner.

That's good to know as they'll be doing mine if it needs one. 6 hours for an RS job is a walk in the park

It'd be REALLY handy if you can get pics or any insight into what they do. My bet is it must be dropping the rear of the subframe - but I've only ever found a YouTube video showing roughly how to go about it - whereas a bit more of a step by step DIY would be awesome.

At the same time - 500 quid labour? I'd take that one on the chest for this job - compared to the time & effort of a full engine out...

Literally just got her back on the drive after a public transport adventure to get to PSI this morning.
I think I can consider myself one lucky punter as when they took a closer look at the steering rack they found the banjo washers on the pipes to the steering rack knackered leaving me a bill for 4 hours Labour plus 2x washers lol.
They also cleared an intermittent ECU light with a new Cam Sensor which I suspected was the timing chain.
Thoroughly recommend using them if I'm honest. I shall definitely be making them my first stop for all future work.
In answer to how they would change the steering rack they do indeed drop the subframe. No pics though as it never happened.
Out of interest what oil are you all running your engine on as they recommended 5w-40 or 10w-40 now it's gaining in years!
