RS6 C5 Turbo rebuilds... DIY?
RS6 C5 Turbo rebuilds... DIY?
I know that not everyone wants to get their hands dirty here but maybe someone has done this?
The turbos on my RS6 engine have a bit of play... not enough for me to throw them away (they work!) but enough for me to consider rebuilding them...
So after a quick Google... I've found these...
https://www.turborebuild.co.uk/webshop/ ... -Core.html
Anyone here played with replacing the cores?
If not, who does a good rebuild service that is reliable?

I have. Well I'm currently rebuilding a TD05HR to a 20g spec. It's not that hard. You just gotta make sure you get them balanced which is only around £50 so it's silly not too. Just check for excessive wear on parts and make sure you put your oil seals on correctly.
I do plan to build hybrid k04's for my car in the future.

Re: RS6 C5 Turbo rebuilds... DIY?
I used to the oem CHRA as it was fine to use. Plus you have to be careful as there's a lot of cheap replicas around. So you're better off sticking with oem and updating bearings etc. The hardest part is if you wanna put on bigger wheels as it'll mean machine the turbine/compressor housing.
Re: RS6 C5 Turbo rebuilds... DIY?
Ok thanks. Do you have a link to the supplier please?kvxxy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2017 3:53 pmI used to the oem CHRA as it was fine to use. That company you linked above actually sells genuine Borg warner rebuild kits. I've not used them yet as I haven't had the chance to build a k03/04 yet. Only done the TD04/05 which are made by MHI and used mainly on Japanese cars.
Oh and I've seen the previous post on the gearbox rebuild. A turbo rebuild should be a walk in the park for you!

Perfect thanks. I've had Turbos apart before inc building hybrids but never RS6 versions. It's always good to research firstkvxxy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2017 4:31 pmThat company you linked above actually sells genuine Borg warner rebuild kits. Re: RS6 C5 Turbo rebuilds... DIY?
Yeah I've always looked at RS6 parts almost at a 'mythical' state because of the car, but as far as I'm aware they're just k04 turbos. It's the inlets that link them to the car. But if you go hybrid you'll have to lose them and machine new inlets.

Deep breath...
Ok here goes nothing (well, £318.22 actually!)... I've gone for the Turbo Rebuild Ltd cartridges and will swap everything over myself.
I pulled the gearbox off last night so one of the turbos is already off. i have one seized stud that I really don't want to have to drill out but I think I need oxy/ac to get it undone.

I ended up drilling and heli-coiling mine.

Actually, that's not quite true. I did manage to drill them out successfully and save all the threads - but truth is they were a little sloppier than I was happy with, so I then re-did and heli-coiled them.
