Not sure I'd agree with this comment though about grills: ”Not only could these parts pose a potential safety risk to those who have them fitted to their cars, they also undermine the legitimacy of the motor industry."

Where they being sold as genuine Audi? If so then yeah granted they're counterfeit but how many aftermarket grills and bumpers are available online?

Or is is purely down to the fact there is a logo on them and if they were sold with just the moulding to attach the rings to, it would be ok?

Sold as genuine Audi? Yes, that's what counterfeit means. If these are counterfeit, then these items will carry all of the markings and stamps that the OEM versions do. Herein lays the problem; the OEM items have a lot of R&D behind them, these are tested, regulated and certified for automotive purposes i.e. the rigours of motoring, everyday use, including crashing to things and people.
The counterfeit versions are not tested (well not unless the counterfeiters have recently changed their business model and started to ensure their products are tested and certified etc).
Aftermarket items are still subject to a lot of the parameters that the OEM products are, you'd hope...
No matter where you go, there you are.

Yeah I guess I asked for that expanation Bam, lol. I suppose I was really asking if the fact they had the Audi rings /RS4 emblems etc was the sole reason they were being called counterfeit as there is loads of that stuff on Ebay, etc.

Indeed the faker's business case isn't especially profitable if they do the R&D, haha.

I can't see a grille being dangerous and unsafe though, but I do concur that's it's not right and applaud those involved in the sting.

Did anyone else notice the banner ad for "Police Auctions" lower down on the linked web page?

Is that where they auction off the "not quite OEM" parts?

Just asking ...

Wonder if its xenonz.co.uk? They sell replica grilles and RS replica bumpers for non RS models. If police did invest months of intelligence, doesn't say much for them. Their very well known and its not like they were doing it in the shadows.
