I contacted Ross Tech direct and they were most helpful. They wanted photos of the cable I had from all angles ,I assume to establish it was genuine. Once that was established they told me to install the Beta version of VCDS( apparently this is the experimental version that future versions will be based on) once installed all tested and registered as it should.
