Im confused. You bought a 1 year old RS6 for 70k and are going to sell it and almost certainly be in negative equity because you are going to have to take a hit on it, and it was 100% financed? Yet you are looking at 'buying' a six year old car that will cost twice as much to run, again 100% financed? That makes no sense! If you don't have any cash for a deposit, lease something half decent = zero finance, zero negative equity, zero risk

Didn't say I was buying the GT-R I just took one for a test drive to see if it was an option.
I'm looking at all options including stepping down into the new S4/S5 which has latest tech and still reasonably quick or even back to BMW or Merc. RS7 is also an option although residuals and future values aren't very good....they don't sell well for some odd reason.

So this past month or so I've had a bit of a reversal on the 'head and heart' with the rare result that my head has now taken over and I've come to the conclusion that I'm paying far too much for what is, after all, just a car....
This was how this thread started. So now Im even more confused than ever? Why sell an RS6 and put yourself in negative equity, and 'buy' an even faster depreciating RS7?

You are just going to be in the same position- or worse!

You make it sound more like you are bored of the RS6 and want something more exotic for your massively monthly payment

Leasing new S4/S5 makes a million times more sense! Or the sensible option S3 / Golf R. Completely stress free financially. Which a tuned six year old GTR will not be

Ok so on Friday I took this cheeky little number out for a test drive:
Image

2011 model facelift Black Edition with a Litchfield 4.25 (may have been 4.5 not sure) tune so around 660 bhp. Great paint job (not a wrap) and looked excellent. Also had the upgraded 'Alcon' brakes which worked a treat-and it needed them.
Far and away the quickest car I've ever driven. 0-60 in 2.5 and over 200 mph. EPIC performance...just insane. The cornering was out of this world and felt like it was on rails. No understeer/oversteer just flat cornering under power. Get on the gas and the engine noise whines and then shrieks. Literally left everything for dead on the road-nothing could touch it.
So-good replacement for the C7?
Good bits: power, handling, steering feel, brakes, comfy seats, harsh ride but not too harsh, boot larger than I thought, knowledge that you are driving the baddest, Ferrari devouring weapon for less than £50k Image
Bad bits: old tech...the nav and switch gear seemed from an age ago and comically <beep> frankly! No stop/go so we're back in C6-stuck in traffic with exhausts burbling watching fuel run out going nowhere-territory. Rear seats? Maybe if you have a baby or a double amputee, seriously there is NO leg room with seats pushed back. Felt 'tinny' /the door handles felt like they could snap. Image-car would attract attention from all the mongs plus the old bill would ping you straight away. Not an 'under the radar' car by any stretch of the imagination and I always liked my 'Q Cars'
Going back home it was horrendous traffic...sat there in comfort with the pano roof open and ACC driving the car-something that's a non starter in the GT-R.
As a weapon for scaring Bugatti's (it's that quick) and smashing B roads in a frenzy then all day long this is the car. Everyday car to fit as many boxes as possible? Not really. Still impressed with it and not totally ruled out though.

Ian I've used this thread as a sounding board-the idea of a GT-R was always appealing but I'd never driven one until 3 days ago. Another time I'd have jumped at it but as a daily drive plus the fact it's tech is from yesteryear it's a no-go for me 'Try before you buy?'
I was trying to achieve something as quick and complete as the RS6 but as we all know it's a struggle. I could go back to M/AMG of course and an M4/C63 is well within budget but the fact is as soon as it rains (tomorrow as it happens) then all that power is pissed away fighting for traction. I had 18 years of that with BMW and while it's great in the dry and an exciting drive it's for around 3-4 months of the year and I don't see the point anymore-not when I only run one car.
Golf R (or any other Golf tbh) no thanks...the average Golf driver is a complete muppet and the R crowd are the worse. Experience them daily on my commute.
Looking at the new S4/S5 is the current thinking (the RS6 has to sell first). Won't be nearly as good as the RS but I'm going to have to get used to that if I want to drive a cheaper car. 'Pay to play' indeed!
Always appreciate the input though

Steve I've tested the new S4 saloon. And I have to say it was a very capable car indeed. What you lose in straight line speed from the RS6 will be made up by the thrill of being able to chuck it any bend like a go kart. It really does handle really well. It's no slouch either and the engine/ exhaust note sounds kinda nice on WOT. I'd go and try one. If you're close to Stratford upon Avon then they have both S5 and S4 as demos.

I used tootle and got a sensible price but that was another time 7 months ago and no PE's on the market then.

If you are going to sell it privately please read this and make certain you are well covered for safety. viewtopic.php?f=76&t=123945

Tootle was good but have pulled the ad now and gone for a private sale. PH for now and then Auto Trader if it doesn't get any interest. Had one message from a dealer yesterday offering a 'realistic' price of £50k. Messaged him back and told him that seeing as other dealers had offered me £62k maybe he should re-evaluate his perception of reality!

Trying to find a private buyer with 70 large in his back pocket and without dealer backing is going to be a tall order.
Not to mention that most people run these on finance..

All the other C7 private ads have been on the trader for months, even the bottom end of the range in the 40's arent shifting.

GLWS.

I would have taken that £62k - I think you will struggle to get more than that privately. Sadly.

False economy am afraid-if I take that deal then I still need to shell out £££ to clear the finance deficit which kind of makes the 'save money on monthly outgoings' a bit redundant. Is what it is. Either car sells for close on asking price, a dealer can work a deal out on part ex or I keep the beast for longer (hardly the worst car to be stuck with!) until it balances out and conditions are more favourable.
