I find the whole thing a little confusing. A friend in the refinery business told me to avoid all supermarket fuel (as it is effectively the dregs) but added that Momentum is ok but as Mike said the additives are added later in the process. I have been feeding my RS4 Momentum with no issues for the last 2 years and for cost and convenience will stick with it for the RS6, unless someone has a compelling argument.

There are atleast two ways to achieve higher octane fuel. No expert here, but I believe DMS when they say that (99 RON) Shell V-Power (formerly Nitro+) and (97RON) BP Ultimate are the more highly refined fuels and hence cleaner, whilst the cheaper (99RON) Tesco Momentum is a less refined fuel with more additives to raise the RON and give you the undoubted increase in power found on the dyno. So, as ever, "you pays your money and takes your choice"; a cleaner engine or cheaper fuel, which may well be determined by how long you wish to keep your high performance car?
Spending as we have no mean sum on our cars I know which I prefer if its available and another old adage comes to mind, "for a ha'peth of tar, the ship was lost"!

I'd like to know why the Germans have 102RON readily available throughout the country, at Aral (BP) stations, yet the highest we are able to get here is 99...

Shell owns ARAL so why on earther don't they have ARAL petrol stations in the UK, fukcers. As we could all fill up with ARAL 102. This stuff really does give you wings.
All the Nurburgringers know about it and I swear by it when in Germany :notworthy: :jump_clap: :FIREdevil: :drink:

In the US the RS7, S6 and other owners seem to have a ready supply of 104 RON - useful for their standing 1/4's and 1/2 miles!

I understood BP owns Aral, but aside from that, why the hell do we not have it here. It's like rocket fuel !!

I thought in the US they show the AKI number which is normally 6-8 less than the RON number? Also I thought 95 was the highest RON available due to the effects of engines at commonly found high-altitude areas.

102 is AFAIk the highest level of RON on sale worldwide. But then again things change constantly, so perhaps I'm behind the curve.

I'd be happy to be able to get momentum or v-power. It's over 70 mile round trip for either so I'm stuck with BP ultimate!!

Doug@MRC said to stop using it and only use V-Power or Momentum; Tesco's is nearer and have now filled up for the 4th time and Damn, it feels more responsive, seems to idle better, run better; almost intangible, but "seems" so much better than the 97Ron.....Plus it's only 117.9 for Momentum and was being raped at 128.9 for the Texaco
128 is rape and pillage bro, shell V is 123!

Don't they have e85 on the pump in the USA??
Quality if you can use it.

114.9 for me for momentum this week. Can't fault that.
128 at nearest shell which is 7 miles there and back and enroute to nowhere!

Yup. I'm stuck with Shell in my locale and its often >10p/litre more expensive than Momentum. For a lower octane?

Taking the biscuit IMO.

Shell and Momentum both 99. Shell has the detergent tech, TESCO less so.

Wow. £80-90k for a car then quibbling about something less than a pack of fags. Average 70 litre fill up at 14 pence difference = £9.80. The Mrs's glass of wine at lunch was nearly that. If I was the type to quibble I should have got her a 2 litre bottle of "white lightning". :smile_smoking:

It begins to mount up Eddie when your doing above average miles. As they say every little helps!

I remember just before I bought the C6, I asked a question about economy and some wise ass on here quipped that I shouldn't be looking to buy a V10 if I was concerned about economy. Yeah OK, I've done near on 45k between the C6 & C7 since Nov 2015, and the C6 was off the road for 4 months in that time!
