new rs4 with problems , help please
hi, just bought a rs4 today with some faults which im trying to fix.
i have edc light on and fault codes 08196,p0492,p2005,p2004.
the car seems low on power to me.
the only modification to the car is that the cats have been removed.
after a lot of searching it seems possible i have a vacuum leak.
any help on this would be fantastic

if the car has the cats removed it needs them mapped out too that should sort it
Re: new rs4 with problems , help please
Can you post the full VCDS output?

Not sure people will be able to help with just error codes. Where did you get them from anyway?
I'd recommend booking the car into mrc for a health check. It only cost £150 from memory, they'll get it on the dyno, run full diagnostics and let you know of any issues.
Also pat is correct if the cats have been removed/gutted then they need to be mapped out otherwise the car will throw an error. This is quite possibly the issue which is no biggy. If the issue is serious the car will go into limp mode.

The owner has just said he removed the middle cats and they don't need mapping out.
He also said he had it done over 3 year ago and these faults only came up a couple of month ago.

Im reading that it could be the non return valve under the manifold, is there a reason if it is that at fault i cant just fit a one way non return valve inline with the vacuum tube that comes out from under the manifold ? that way i wont need to remove the manifold.

Sounds like he just removed the central resonators in the exhaust, not any of the cats. Also even it it were if the faults only came up a few months ago they are probably unrelated.
Without having a diagnostics scan done on the car, you will find it difficult to solve the problem. As Jony asked, where did you get the fault codes you mention in the original post?

Re: new rs4 with problems , help please
sounds like stuck flaps-either due to vacuum or simply gummed up by the codes
remove inlet check /fix same
then deal with cats-but probably not an issue once you deal with the main probs
i would buy a VCDS cable tbh-worth their weight in gold
was it the blue one you bought -off flea bay...? seen one advertised reasonably priced with those codes mentioned

Yes bought car as is, I got the codes from my laurel scanner.
Looked under the car today and there is no pipes going to the exhaust at all, they have been removed.
Also there is zero vacuum, left running for 5 mins and if I pull a vacuum pipe there is no hiss, when running there is no vacuum whatsoever with my finger over the hole.
