Footers, is yours the 3.5GDi V6? I'm liking the look of these, and they seem to come up for sale more often than the Outlanders, or Nissans.

Did you do any research about the fuel injection problem? Seems to be the only Achilles heel. Sounds like the kind of problem I'd rather have rather than, say, suicidal gearbox.

I was in London this weekend and every other car was a bloody XC90 V8 - why are there non for sale?!

Yes 3.5 GDI V6. RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST is the one major problem imo, get under and have a really good look. I bought mine knowing about the majority of the rust, but found a couple more holes recently.

Sills are being re-welded next month as well as the initial perforations (one each side) that I found on the rear of the front wheel arches behind the suspension struts as you look from the engine bay (every single one I looked at had this on the back of he arches), take a good torch! I found two more perforations towards the front of the wheel arches behind the headlights. Why they didn't rustproof the UK versions better I don't know...

Another problem point that I found yesterday, is the rear coolant/heater pipes that go from the front to the rear offside corner if you have the rear AC option fitted (think it is an option at least). I had wondered where I was losing coolant from slowly and was puzzled as to why the removable rear heater shield was so badly rusted through. I found a moisture patch under the OSR yestrday when I hadn't driven her for a day and got under, found the leaking coolant pipe. The metal coolant pipe/AC pipe cross over once or twice under the bodywork I believe so if you get a long term perforation in the wrong place, the leak can corrode the AC pipework too.....

Car is in the garage today having a load of new steering parts fitted so I have asked them to locate the perforation(s) as well as poss and mark them for me, I plan on cutting out the section(s) with a Dremel and clamping coolant hose in place then slapping Waxoyl over what I can get to. Example of issue - http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... 46ede622e1

I hadn't really heard anything about injection issues that concerned me, but I have her running BP Ultimate as the station is near home and have run a couple of tanks of injector cleaner through for the hell of it. I am really impressed with how together the Slushbox feels on 111k and the fact that the old girl had a towbar fitted from Factory. Just don't forget, the Shogun does feel a tad Agricultural compared to say the XC90 but hell, you have that old RR and we both have better cars in the stable anyway.

I do love how much room there is in the back for carrying stuff and I have found that the big cubby hole that is made when removing the 3rd row seats to be stupidly useful for keeping plant pots etc in place. I had a pair of replacement front seats, a new exhaust system and a load of plants too with some room to spare.

Nothing is easy. Sounds like a ball-ache to replace the pipes. You not tempted to delete the rear heating / AC?

I will give my bodge a go first as it is easy enough, otherwise I will consider deleting it. I like having the option working, especially for the dogs really but the AC is more important than the heat for them of course.

Forgot to add one other annoying thing that you might have to sort, seized rear wheel alignment bolts. Seeing any running noticeable negative rear camber can well point to this issue. Heat up/cut out job if seized up enough. I will find out on Monday what I expect to be the case when the car is being aligned.

Thanks for all the info. Finding a decent 7 seater petrol engine was much more difficult than I thought.

Bought a XC90 V8. My first Volvo. Seems like a lot of car.

Volvo equivalent of Vagcom ordered.

Nice, the old man in me bloody loves Volvos and I don't know why. My dad bought as complete lemon of a V70 D5 years ago and I found excuses to drive it, even with it being a stinky Disiesel.
