I dont think an RS6 Performance will be far off from a stage 2 C6, it is obviously slower but not a world apart with the better gearbox. And about 1k will get you an MRC stage 2 C7 which will tip the scales the other way.
And forget about the C8, based on RS5 prices the C8 will be 100k+ for a basic spec
My C6 with only a Supersprint exhaust made 609bhp/537lbft at MRC. Powerwise theres nothing in it, gearbox obviously helps the C7 if it comes to drag race
The C6 is just about power nothing else the C7 as we all know isn't. Can you imagine a C6 taking on that GTR in the PH video!!!!!

It's pretty much a totally different car. More feedback, significantly quicker lower down (am taking it your Plus is stock-my loon was), better brakes, better systems etc etc. The C6 platform started in 2005 so it's a 12 year old car no matter which way you look at it. The C7 kicked off in 2012 I believe so much newer tech +++
The difference between the two is staggering I found, feels lighter and more tactile despite there being not much difference in weight (less than 100 kgs afaik). The biggest difference of course is economy! I've had 31.2 mpg out of the C7 so far and others have got slightly more. MPG a C6 owner could only dream of!
Now the C7 is my only car so if you have other cars then maybe it's worth waiting to see what the C8 is like but you'll have to wait til around early 2019 for the new RS6 it's thought.
It is a very different car though especially tech wise.
Neatly summarises my thoughts. I adored my C5. Liked but never smitten by my C6 ( in hindsight wish I'd tuned it), love my C7. So much more to it than the C6 in terms of tech, ride quality, looks.

If you can wait the 24 months why not pick up a C7 after they've had the price hit from the C8 being released. PE's will be coming up to 3 yrs old by then.

Rich.

PS try switching steering modes in your next drive. I find comfort much better than dynamic (which feels over damped).
This ^

Disappointing really as I felt I'd always drive in dynamic as the Damping is fine for me - but steering feels disconnected at times.
Steering feel is def. more consistent in comfort mode.

I never had a C6 - never really interested me due to the slightly understated looks.
Not much help I guess! :-)

I personally wouldn't buy a new one, I'd go with the 50-55k option if you don't feel it's worth the 50k+ delta for a new one.

All depends if you're going for long term ownership I guess...a pre-FL I was looking at was going to cost me more than the 16 plate I have now due to residuals.
The C6 was a battering ram but as has been spoken about here cornering was always interesting! I drove two tuned cars and they felt like a runaway express train and hair raisingly fast. The fact is that the general consensus is that you need to look at uprating the brakes. Plus then you have the oil leak/coolant lines issues which aren't cheap (warranty takes care of the oil leak but coolant lines was a question mark) and will eventually happen given the ages of the cars (approaching 10 years old now). They are fast heavy barges that suit m-ways and dual carriageways. The stealth look I loved as most thought it was a normal C6, those that knew always gave a thumbs up or approving look. But as has been said here it really is all about that V10. Proper old school power. The C7 is a massive step forward in every way and hopefully the C8 will (and should) follow that formula.

Ok thanks for the considered replies guys. I submit that the C7 is a big step up from my car. However, as I have two other cars that provide me with the dynamic thrills, would the £40k+ extra outlay give me a worthwhile step up, or is it really just about having the latest toy on my drive? I agree with Golfather that the C7s do seem overpriced, with low mileage 3 year old cars still commanding £55k.

This is really a tough one, as I really love all the improvements that the new shape offers, but on paper it's hard to justify the outlay. I always struggle with rational vs emotional decision battles!

There's a nice Daytona C7 with 59k miles on it and the garage are still trying it on with a ticket price of £53k.

Cheapest C7 on the trader is a private 13 plate with 38k miles.
Books at 38k, Private 41, forecourt max at 44.
Yet hes got it up for 51...

These will drop hard soon once stealers lose interest and they drop out of warranty.

Why not go out and drive a C7?
Only then you'll come to appreciate what you already have, and realise just how good the C6 really is...

If people are still buying them at 50k + then That's what they are worth.

Tbh I thought I'd took the big hit on mine but will residuals hit hard a again?
I've never lost a lot on cars tbh And accepted this this is possibley my worst buy but For me it's not a car I'd be happy to take a 20k dip on over a couple of years based on pleasure of ownering it.

I'd be inclined to keep the C6 or go different route

c7 pricings are all over the place. There are the odd sensible traders out there who are happy to make smaller profits to move cars on but a lot of asking prices seem way too high.

There's 74 FL cars for sale on Autotrader at the moment, the lowest price being £55k, hate it or not the market dictates the price and the price on these is strong!

All this talk about inflated prices, there's 74 available now for crying out loud, hardly hard to come by!

The price is what it is, it's a great car which is highly saught after and are currently fetching good money, will this be sustainable? Who knows, but you only live once!

If you want one get out there and buy one, enjoy the car for what it is and stop wasting valuable time pondering over what if's!

Just my 2 pence worth 😉

This. There's a good reason why residual values are so strong and that's because it's an awesome car! Very very few cars can cover so many bases so capably. Now, with the E63S and other forthcoming cars (unknown if there will be an M5 Touring) then you will see the RS6's place at the top of the tree threatened as the USP of the RS6 (ballistic estate) will have some real competition and that's a great thing for us. Adversely that's the main reason why saloons suffer on resale, (RS6/7) the competition is just as strong if not better. I'm not tied to Audi I'm tied to driving great cars! This is my second RS6 and they are worth every penny and all this 'overpriced' talk is just that-talk. The price is the price and if you get a car that's underpriced you have to question what's wrong with it. If you feel it's too much then don't buy it!

Should I move C6 to C7?

Post by gsc » Sat May 27, 2017 5:15 pm

Throw something left field in, have you considered a 4G RS7? Unless you need an estate it offers everything the C7 does but for whatever reasons (mostly journalist perceptions) residuals are not as strong so you have a better value used car and more exclusive.

When I was in the market last year the spec I got in my RS7 would have been 15-20k more in a C7.
