For the RS6?

Either hybrid or V8 shared with Pork.
No I meant for the M5. I couldn't see any mention above of engine size or cylinders.
Same engine as per the current F10, but with revised internals including turbos & mated to an 8spd ZF gearbox. Output quoted as around 600bhp. The current engine already has a 600bhp variant as this was offered on the 30 Jahre edition.

Judging by the Timo video doing the rounds, they've made a significant improvement to the engine/exhaust sound as it appears nice & loud even in the softest settings. Certainly didn't appear to have any synthesised noise either.

Worth noting that as per the RS6, most F10's were outputting a fair bit more than the 560bhp quoted by BMW with many being close to 600bhp stock, so chances are in the real world these new 600bhp motors will be closer to 630/640.

Less weight has to be the next big gain.

I think it's fair to say that it will drive a lot better than the C7, so what can audi do about the C8
C7 handles better then the C6 apparently - I wouldn't know having not had a C6.
Can they make the C8 better? Does this take the car away from where audi want to position it - ie it becomes too hardcore for what is a "luxury" sports estate?

Audi seem to have improved the new RS3 by press account but my guess is that the M2 is still much more rewarding and fun.

I'm not sure if handling matters so much in M5/RS6 territory... hardly nimble, but it will be a factor in the reviews.

I'm not a good driver so it's fine for me... but at times it does feel very unattached from me and heavy. I often wonder if an M5 feels the same...

They haven't yet confirmed it will be exactly 600bhp so could be slightly higher.

If the Mfctrs are quoting 3.5sec then it certainly should be quicker to 62 than the current RS6 as isn't that 3.7 or 3.9? I accept a few are a touch quicker, but BMW like Audi do under quote a touch. No idea what the C8 will bring & that could be quicker, but I reckon the C8 won't offer up any more than around 600bhp & as it's already AWD, not much they can do to enhance the sprint time.

Video doing the rounds tonight of Timo playing on track in the new M5 & it looks very quick & they appear to have the new car sounding spot on. Timo certainly loves it.

Also, didn't Audi confirm they won't be following AMG & BMW, so won't offer the RWD feature? The new M5 will feature 3 drive settings which could be interesting & something I don't believe AMG have done.

Bottom line is this sector is certainly hotting up nicely.
Well stock Rs6 with 560 already done 3.3 from 0-100km, Leo rs did that, so Audi always writes bad numbers

That was my point though, some RS6's will be let's say a little fruity, but not heard of any other stock C7 RS6 getting close to 3.3 so Leo's could have been a Monday morning car (that being the polar opposite of a Friday afternoon car). No doubting Audi under state outputs & stats & to be fair, BMW & AMG do the same. Wasn't Leo's stock RS putting out more than the quoted 560 though?

BMW going for a larger HUD suggests to me they want it to display more driver orientated info.

As for improving the C8, I think we would all agree that they could look at more steering feel and just (not too easy)by reducing weight the car should be able to accelerate quicker. In regards to published times, whatever is published has to be taken with a pinch of salt and probably no more reliable than emission figures; the proof of the pudding is in the eating. As mentioned elsewhere, there are certified drag strip times for OEM C7 RS7's in the States of 3.19 secs to 60mph.

Having recently spent a year in the C6 (Saloon) until very recently I can certainly attest to the improvement the C7 brings. Totally different feel and handling. There's not much weight difference to be honest but to have made it handle so differently is amazing. Ok it's no M car in the handling department but it really feels so different. The C6 felt heavy but the power was 'rawer' if you can get what I mean. V10 vs V8 I guess. It really was a blunt object barge though and corners could be a challenge at high speeds! Engine noise was epic though-especially with a Milltek fitted. Economy is one of the greatest gains- although almost anything is better than the C6 in that department.

No doubting the real world pace, but Audi quote 3.9 0-62 for the non PE & 3.7 for the PE. BMW are quoting 3.5 0-62 so even with a similar margin of underestimation, the new M5 could be knocking on the door of being a 3sec 0-62 car. Now that makes for a very interesting 4dr saloon. Saying that, i'm sure AMG are also quoting 3.5sec 0-62 for the E63S, but i'm not sure if their reputation is for being under/over or bang on.

If nothing else, it's now a very interesting baseline for the C8 to aim for as the AWD/RWD difference has now gone, performance appears it will be similar between the 3, so other than Estate vs. Saloon it should come down to how they 'actually' apply themselves on the road & track which indicates a cracking situation for the buyer.

I would think that they will be looking to utilise the same running gear as the Panamera Turbo S Hybrid in the C8 - 550hp V8 turbo petrol engine with the hybrid motors attached to give 680hp & 3.5sec 0-62 time, probably just switch out the gear box to give Porsche the slight edge along with the a less dynamic geometry, assuming they are all on the same MLB platform or whatever it is these days (otherwise they wont be able to charge the premium for the Porsche).

It helps push the hybrid angle that VAG are pushing, and means they can share more parts across the family and will put it ahead of the Merc and BMW equivalents.

I'd be highly surprised if they put the same power plant from the Pan Turbo S in the RS6, Turbo maybe but not Turbo S. A huge delta in price & status between those 2, so extremely unlikely they'd create an Audi that performed possibly better than a top of the range Porsche that costs twice the price.

I agree Audi could include something electric in the C8, but a better engine than the Turbo S i really can't see. The new M5 really does make the anticipation for the new C8 all the more interesting.

Saying that, i guess a detuned version of the combo in the Turbo S could be an option with say 600-620bhp
