Hello all..Just purchased an S3!

Post by RS SYED » Sun Sep 25, 2005 11:54 pm

First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone on the board..

Iv just purchased a 2001 'Y' reg, Cat d (repaired) Audi S3 for £8500.
Its got 2 owners and 34'000 miles on the clock.

I have a few questions to ask as im pretty new to Audi's.
The Abs light is on, and the Esp light on the dash. They garage said they had changed the brake pads recently, but the ABSsensor need changing??
Iv checked all the fuses and theyre all fine..
Any help would be much appreciated..

Also how can i tell if my car is the 210bhp or the 225 bhp model?

kind regards..

Shabs

Hi,

You can find out by taking a look in the service book or the sticker in the boot - if it says 165kw then its 225 but anyhow I think y reg were all 210s.

You need to get VAG-COM plugged in, that should indicate what the problem is before letting a garage charge you for things...

You could try WAKs company if you dont know someone with VAG-COM - they offer a mobile service to check this for you - I'm not typing their name as I am not sure if they are an advertiser here!

I have two kids and have had the S3 for over 3 years! Ask Sita too, S3 handles better than a S4

I'm afarid its true. Great handling car and lots of fun. When I moved onto an RS4 we kept mine in the family cos it was so good. Its still going strong and still puts a big smile on the face

With regards to the ESP light. Has the steering wheel been off ? If so it could be the steering wheel isn't on straight in relation to the steering angle sensor. Heard of this before.

yawn! where's my pipe! :D

My S3 handles far better than the S4 I had. Shame the engine isn't as refined and sounding.

Ahhh here you are guys!

Yes the S3 is one nice little motorcar....... The 225bhp S3 came in the facelift versions in MY2002 if i recall correctly but the very first MY2002 spec`ed cars were still 210bhp.

AMK = 210bhp BAM = 225bhp

The above engine codes can be found in the front of your service book on the sticker.

Enjoy the car, I know i did.

Anyway, the older 210 versions before AMK engine code are better if you want to go Big Turbo route as the rods and pins are stronger

is that actually true is it another wife's tale, Gimp? When we last discussed this, I could find no differences in the parts in question between the engine codes.

I dont think its true, if anything its the otherway around, the facelift cars had the revised VVT engines with slightly different parts and drive by wire.
