Speed recognition - almost there
Speed recognition - almost there
I have been trying to get traffic sign recognition working in the HUD via VCDS but to no avail. However, tonight it very briefly flashed up a 10mph sign which is correct for the area I was in (a school car park), so it saw 'something'. However it has never come up before or after, so I'm obviously missing a key setting.
If anyone has this as an option and has a dump from VCDS, could you possibly send it to me so I can compare my tweaks?
Thanks
Pete

Good luck, but I am afraid that, when you do get it working, you will find it is rubbish. The system is often wrong and cannot be relied upon at all.
Re: Speed recognition - almost there
Do you already have speed recognition and just want it to work on the HUD or you don't have it at all and are trying to get it to work on the DIS and HUD?
FWIW, I was looking to retrofit the speed recognition but everyone on here that had it said it was crap and I they wished they could just use the map speed instead so I didn't bother with it.

The first post mentions the Sign recognition codes. Intially I wanted to enable this feature- however many have mentioned that although a good idea the Audi implementation is not that reliable. I am overseas for the next couple of years and away from the love of my life ( ..and the wife!) so I haven't been able to explore if the obdeleven adaptation codes will actually work. I guess it just needs to be confirmed whether obdeleven is based on VCDS tech (then the coding should be good) or whether it is VCP based and then it might not be possible to implement via VCDS. I have VCDS but would consider getting the obdeleven interface (VCP?) if it opens up even more features in my car (and way cheaper if you an android phone or can get access to one)

I find it very good actually. Maybe it's improved on the facelift? Mine definitely uses map data as well as camera data.

Re: Speed recognition - almost there
Yes it used map data unless there was a sign to override the map speed such as you would find through roadworks but the problem was that it was misreading signs and incorrectly changing the speed.
Re: Speed recognition - almost there
Are we talking about the speed limit display? If so my car gets it wrong a lot! There is a road local to me which was changed from a 60 zone to a 40 zone ages ago and the car still says 60 even after I updated the nav?

Nope. It was pretty good, reflected on HUD as well. Worked well, maybe a few metres delay only.
