Tell me I'm wrong...

Post by NeilyRS » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:37 pm

For the last few months I have been toying with the idea of selling my Daytona B7 RS4 Avant! I've had the car for 3 years now and have only done 9000 miles in this time. I work away from home and drive my wife's a1 tdi 9 out of 10 journeys when I'm home. In fact I have only done around 300 miles in 3 months in the RS4

When I am driving it the car is great and I still enjoy a blast on some nice roads but I keep feeling it is a bit of a dinosaur now. Terrible fuel consumption for real world performance similar to most hot hatches now (granted the noise cannot be equaled)

Tempted by a dsg golf R....

Tell me I'm being silly and just to keep it tucked away in the garage!

I have just sold my Golf R and got into a B8 RS4 The golf was probably a little quicker as it was tuned, but speed is not everything and they just have no soul, A hot hatch would be cheaper to keep in all departments, but they just lack that certain something which makes you smile every time you press that start button.

You will have to make your own mind up, but I will say this the B7 RS4 was the ONLY car I ever regretted selling.......but don't let that sway you in anyway :?

Sell it, I've done more miles in mine today than you've done in 3 month's, you should set it free so it can run wild with the rest of us.

Get the new tech stuff & newer car . I have thought the same
Based on your miles that's a lot of deprecation for little miles lol

Be better changing the a1 & keep rs4 for the fun

Views on B7 vs. B8?

Ive had a few B7's and a friend had a B8. The B8 sounds a bit better and will generally pull a little on a B7 due to its different cam profile, but the steering lets is t down and although the dual clutch is impressive, it's not a engaging as an old school manual.

Dinosaur? A bit yes, but I think for me, that's actually part of the appeal having since moved to more modern cars with dual clutches, electric steering, etc.

As a daily the more modern car is easier to live with, but for fun it's the B7 assuming you need the car to do family practicalities, etc and two seats won't suffice.

If I could justify the outrageous cost of owning and running both B7 and B8 RS4's I would, the B8 is a great all round car which is a lot more comfy even on 20 inch rims, and a big step forward in all departments apart from steering. The speed thing is not really a issue for me as I think both RS4 models have real world usable power for the roads we have in this country, and as stated my golf was much quicker, but it was just an object that went bonkers fast and that's it...all the money i spent tuning it did not make me love it like I love my V8.
If life was one big smooth winding road, I would take the B7 all day long....as I thinks it more of a focused drivers car, one still well worth owning for such occasion.

Thanks for the replies guys! I don't know what to do!!

I totally get the old car thing. My true pride and joy is my mk2 RS2000 custom which I am currently returning to standard (been flat fronted, caged and used on track for the last few years) Dont know if I can justify having he 2 of them hardly getting used.

I still love getting home from my work after 3 weeks, firing up the RS4, hearing that miltek roaring into life and taking it a decent drive however I find myself reluctant to use it daily and just use he A1!

Maybe I could convince the Mrs to change out her A1 haha
