Stage 2 S5 or Stage 1 RS3

Post by MartayMcFly » Fri Apr 28, 2017 9:32 pm

The RS6 was always just an "if I don't do this now, I'll never manage to" sort of situation, and now that I'm looking to move house I'm going to have to reduce my monthly outgoings a bit. I've known for months that I would be down-grading at some point but now the various pieces are falling in to place, and the decision might be coming sooner than I really expected.

So, keen to stay with Audi and wanting something with a reasonable bit of poke, I've narrowed the search (for now) to a B8.5 S5 Sportback which would be getting pulley/intake/exhaust and a stage 2 map (around 450bhp) or an 8V RS3 with just an exhaust and a map (about 420bhp).

Thoughts? Suggestions either way? Anyone recently been down the same route and willing to give me some pointers?

I considered it briefly, but don't want a 10-year old car.

Exhaust? Does it not already have the sports exhaust? If so, just a map needed.

Suppose you've been there really. I don't like the steering of the others. Also not a fan of the haldex aspec of the RS3. I do love the sound of the 5 pot though. Both have great tuning potential of course, as you mention.

I had a play in all of these on Wednesday. I've got to say the RS3 and the new TT-RS were by far the most fun to drive. You can properly just hoon around in them.

I'm thinking the S5 will be more a relaxed drive and take more to modify how I want, its like the S5 is comfort mode and the RS3 would be sport mode. And I know which one I use more in my car, so pretty sure my mind is made up.

I'm still going to take both for a test drive and see because the 3 is quite a bit smaller than I'm used to, and haven't had haldex for years.

Yea Mike. It wasn't what I'd expected though. It's just a taster session.

R8 v10 plus was standing still take off into a braking zone then 3 high speed corners.

RS6 PE. Ceramic brake testing. Take off through 3 gears then hard braking into bollard area swerving to the left whilst braking into adjacent box.

RS3. Slalom course. ( funny as fcuk) with and without ESP.

RS7 PE and TT-RS. Stand still start 3 fast corners to corner clip the apex.

Ive got to say the TT-RS was the most fun.
