My car just started doing this. Little bits of fluff and foam are coming out of the dash vent - the one that points at the windscreen.
Since VAG love to repeat past mistakes, I assume this is the same thing that happened to my Golf II - the insulation inside the heater matrix or conduits starting to disintegrate with age and coming into the cabin. That went on for a few years, blowing bigger and bigger chunks until, presumably, there was none left.
Anyone get any tips on stopping it or getting it all out? I don't want bits of powdery foam blowing in my eye when I'm doing 140 and I don't want to put up with it for the next 10 years.

I dare say the heater matrix on a C5 is more complicated than London's sewer system. I can't imagine you'd be up for pulling it apart. What was the solution for the mk2?

I suspect that pulling the engine would be easier than getting the heater matrix out.
The solution in the Golf was simple: drive around like that for years and brush the bits off your clothes until eventually, one day, no more came out of the vents.

Might be climate but the car's always been garaged. Maybe humidity in the garage. The Golf was never garaged though.

Could you get to anything by pulling the motor out of the blower unit under the dash ? . You can access a lot of it by dropping the glove box . It's only a 2 minute job to get out

The other day, and for the first time in years, I used recirc and my problems started after that. The flap must have welded itself to the foam and when I asked it to move it must have pulled some of it off.
I gave the car a proper clean yesterday inside and out and put the heater fan on full blast, and toggled recirc and non recirc. A bit more foam came out and I vacuumed it up and the eruption seems to have dried up now. We'll see how it goes.
