Steering rack beware

Post by Afsimba » Tue Mar 21, 2017 6:38 pm

So after deciding to sell and move to the C7 Rs6 and mentioning in previous thread the other day no reportable issues 6 days before I trade , whilst reversing car onto drive the red alert on dash says steering inoperable do not drive ! So now diagnosed with dealer saying new rack required due to failed electrical component ! So not being an expert and not sure why this alone cannot be changed that my car has covered 11k miles approximately and expecting bill to be upwards of £2500 , can't recall if anyone in this particular forum has had this issue but food for thought that these like I guess any part on these cars can fail prematurely with what seems to be a non serviceable part !! cars never been tracked and has been driven relatively sympathetically well within parameters of what would be expected of it I'll update soon as I know actual figure but sore for car of this age and mileage

Not seen anyone have problems on a B8 RS4 but some of the C7 RS6 guys have had issues.

Haven't you said previously that you have a 5year extended warranty on the car? I wouldn't be expecting any form of bill in that case.

Mine had the same at 2years/5k miles

Parked it up on drive, next morning big red warning, recovered to dealer, new rack fitted.

The rack is an easy swap, takes longer to do the system recalibrations.

Mine had the same issue a few weeks ago. Replaced under audi extended warranty without issue.
