EXHAUST RECOMENDATIONS

right lets say i go for the x pipe .....(is this a part i buy ? ) and a performance back box / pipes, without messing with the car too much whats the best back box to buy ? assuming its a back box or is it two ?

i am not sure i want to go down the road of removing cats and sealing off pipes on a £15,000 to £17,000 car if you know what i mean ? i just want a nice loudish sound, not a car show standard or a young youth trying to impress friends type of loud i just like cars and want a nice runmble so you can hear me coming but dont need ear plugs.

IF I AM MAKING ANY SENSE, going back to what i said before, i basically put a eismann race exhaust on the m3 and touched nothing else on the system and it sounded awesome, thats the sort of thing i want to do something simple but effective. That eismann bloody cost me £1500 but dont think it was worth the money hence not sore i want to pay out that sort of cash again. IM NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER

You don't seal pipes off. The cats have four cats in total, but only need two (one per bank). Deleting the precat gives you more noise and power/torque.

B7's and E46's are completely different. As is the exhaust set ups. Eisenmann was a good choice on your M3.

sorry, what i meant was the flaps, i dont want to remove the pipes and seal them off at the rear as it sounds a little un profesiional thats all, its just me lol

Oh ok. It's just a vacuum line, standard stuff really, but to be fair it only keeps them open at all times, it's only the same as pressing the 's' button when you start the car. They have a habit of sticking closed, so check they work as well as the side bolsters inflating and the noticeable kick at 5k rpm.

No you have four cats. You'd effectively have two if you did the mod. Which is really easy to do yourself if the cats are off the car already or any garage could do it really (hence me offering a set for sale). It's removing them / refitting them to the car that's a little less DIY friendly and why I'd get a garage to do that bit. For me, I much prefer to fit a different system, even if it's a lightly modded OEM rather than cut up the factory one from the car, then it gives you options later if you want to put it back on or sell the car stock, etc, etc. You can then sell the modded exhaust and break even pretty much.

I briefly had a Quicksilver exhaust on my car, it sounded terrible as there was no V8 sound anymore.

Deleting the centre silencers on the stock exhaust will give you the sound you are looking for and at £200 it is a no brainer.

I have had no issues passing an MOT with this setup and my valves are always open on the back boxes with the vacuum hoses disconnected.

Honestly, best mod I have ever done to the car, just wished I had done it 5 years earlier.

On the Quicksilver exhaust the drone was terrible, the Milltek system is also known to have this issue.

The modified stock system avoids this whilst still sounding very good.

You don't really need to gut the precats for extra noise, only if you want extra power gains although they are slightly louder.

The res delete mod alone will give you the biggest increase in noise.

To be honest this does sound like what i am after, so do you recomend two straight pipes or x pipe to replace the silencers ? and i assume i still remove the pipes from the flaps ? Maybe a stupid question but when this is done does that basically mean you dont use the s button anymore or does that do something else as well ?

so one last thing regards this, when i disconnect the pipes are the flaps automatically opened and x pipe or straight pipe for loudness

I did answer that on the last page. They are sprung open and need the engines vacuum to close.

? no i mean once i remove the pipes, the flaps no longer work, so are they open because the pipes are removed ? or do i manually open them and then they stay open, sorry if that was not clear, and i guess your not sure regards the x pipe

They are sprung open. You need vacuum from the engine to close them. So if you disconnect the vacuum hose there is no vacuum to close them and the springs holds them open. Assuming they are not jammed closed that is.

I think cross pipe makes F all difference for power which is the point of having it. For noise I'd be surprised if there is a great deal of difference but somebody already said earlier it makes it more raspy.
