Exhaust gas temp sensor?
Chaps, I need some help with EGT logging.
having had a look at an SKN remapped car the EGT values were 945 degrees fixed, didnt change one jot!
from cold to ragging it.
The car has no fault codes registered.
I have never seen this before, does anyone know why this would occur, is it part of the remap?
The car is not making boost over the 3000 range but is making boost at the top end 4000 revs plus.
any ideas would be appreciated.

Be careful out there or your arse may be sorry.
1st and foremost, you need to go and talk to an audi technician and ask what the full process is for changing a EGT before you start commenting based on assumption. 2nd, when I say a loss of power, I mean reduced torque. Even AMD know about the modified EGT and its changes in the performance of the car, ask them.
3rd, you are alright because your remap is based on the "F" data from the start. If you had the "D" before then switched to the "F", you will notice a performance reduction straight away.
4th, let me ask you a question Morpheous. Why would you think they would change both at the same time anyway if only one is defective? Throw away one perfectly good £157 piece of equipment? Makes no sense. Also, the EGTs are sensors, not moving parts, so a comparision to turbo change is a invalid example to use. You need to check up on EGTs more thoroughly. They do alot more than what you have listed. Check it out and then come back to me with BOLLOX!

When I was fumbling about testing mine, I had to hold the car flat out under boost for about twenty seconds before they started to increase, I think I'm right in assuming (blower may be able to back me up on this)they are for protection of the turbos when the temperature in the exhaust entering the turbine increases.having had a look at an SKN remapped car the EGT values were 945 degrees fixed, didnt change one jot!
The ecu detects this temp rise and increases the mixture to cool the charge.
This is how you get better fuel consumption. Its only excessivley rich when it needs to be.
In the old days, the mixture was increased to rich as soon as the boost increased to cool the charge.
One thing which I was puzzled about was I only had one F fitted the other was a D.

Nope, blocks 34 and 43 (or something) are internally calculated cat temps, these channels are used by US users but they aren't right as anyone can get the ECU to display totally silly values in those blocks if they have the knowledge to do so. Additionally, 551C and 551D don't even have those values, they are only for KWP2000 compatible ECUs....

Changed my passenger side EGT sensor at the weekend - now both my sensors are the "F" type.Blower wrote: As we can see the prefix 'D' has been changed to an 'F' but thats isnt all that has changed. This new prefix 'F' part is less tolerant to high temperatures than the old and a limiter programmed into the sensor reduces performance by 10-15%..
Before I changed the sensor I had noticed that at WOT it felt a bit flat after the initial boost "spike". I also noticed that fuel consumption had increased slightly. Apparently the ECU reduces charge pressure and runs an emergency enrichment process based on revs rather than exhaust temperature if an EGT sensor fails.
The car now feels fully fit again - can't say I've noticed any loss of power/torque after changing to the "F" sensors, certainly not 30-odd BHP anyway.
