Front bumper

Post by harding » Sun Feb 05, 2017 4:15 pm

Hey!
Im in the garage and was planning doing my clear corner mod today. However i got stuck in the first 10 minutes. Im using this DIY http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthrea ... er-Removal
But not to my suprise the RS4 looks really different from inside the wheel housing. There are alot of stuff in the way and i could barely see the two 10mm nuts. (Actually i only saw one tbh)
My bet there is no way around it, but is there any DYI for the RS4 specific anywhere?
Any special tool that is needed? I broke my piece of garbage flexible extention trying to turn the 10mm nut. So... any advice?

Hi

Bumper is straight forward just a little awkward. 10mm nuts up in the arches you'll need a long extension to get to them. You can feel them with your hands first then guide the socket to them

Also those nuts aren't tight, tight enough to hold it on but not so tight you would break your tools?

I used one of these with a 10mm front and a screwdriver. It just broke when i was trying loosen the nut. Im not sure if id get to the nut without a flexible extention?

So the bumper is gone, but now im stuck with trying to remove the headlights:
Image

Im using this as a tool:
Image

Trying to get into this hole to reach the T30 screw in there:
Image

But the screwdriver ends up slightly to the left of the screw like this:
Image

Its super frustrating because i touch the screw but do not reach it. (Took the picture on a friends A4 where you actually could see the screwdriver and the screw from the other side)
There is no way i can reach it.

I was following this tutorial:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthrea ... -of-Bumper
And im stuck with the last screw (headlight screw nr3 in the tutorial)

So, what am i missing? Do i have to get a thinner screwdriver to get more space inside the holes to move it around? Or is there a trick to move the screw to line up with the 2 holes above? Or shoudl i drill open the holes bigger? :?

4 hours in the garage and my back hurts.......

Had the same issue, and bought multiple tools to do the job.
This set worked perfectly for that tricky torx nut on the wing.

Extensions with individual torx bits were slightly too big to sit on the head of the nut, even though they went through the whole with plenty of room to spare... got to it immediately with one of these long drivers.

I bought the exact same ones, worked a charm. I agree, wouldn't usually buy cheap tools but what else are you going to use 300mm+ torx drivers for?

Thanks alot guys! I found a place in sweden that sold them and ordered the set aswell! But my concern is, doesnt the torx bit reach the bolt in a diagonal angle and therefor risk to disfigure the head of the nut...?

Might be a slight angle but I've never had a problem, they're not that tight. The torx heads are stong, you won't round it out like a shitty Phillips head screw.

Finally got it off! Note the screwdriver still on the left side. Kinda went too far getting the longest T30 available in the whole world... :biggrin2:

Now let the fun begin. Pulling apart the headlights tomorrow :boohoo:

Do you have to remove the front. Bumper in order to get the headlights out?
