Consensus on buying part worn tyres?
Seen Michelin Pilot Super Sports with 5.5 - 7.0 mm tread for sale but have done a 'few laps of the track' and pictures show the surface rubber has been through a heat cycle or two.
Are these ok to put on a high performance road car?

I'd steer clear, why someone would put brand new tyres on a car then go on a track is a mystery to me.

I buy loads and loads, always big brands, but odd times I will run wheels for a week so would be crazy to buy new.
I also have some on sets I go back to and again no issues.
I have had a very odd one if a set of four that sometimes have a little damage from fitting or removing and ill just buy a new

Thanks Jules. I have no objection in principle to part worn tyres and your experience validates that. I guess my question was more aimed at a set that has obviously been round a track, and if that fact causes any particular issues (I don't see why it would?).

I have bought continental sports that have been used on track days, remember to some of these people buying these tyres for a track day its nothing.
Then just sell them on till the next time.
I've had no bad experiences with these either, they can come with rubber blobs picked up from the track, the ones I got said they
would come off after a few miles but it did take quite a while tbh.
Having said that I never noticed any difference to handling or road noise, so just kept running them.

Always check the stamped-on manufacturing dates. If they are more than 4 years old then they'll start to be much less grippy. I often change my tyres not because they are worn but because they are old.
I always worry that part-worns come from crashed cars. Who knows what trauma they have suffered before being removed from the rims and put up for sale?

I've bought part works for both my previous RS6's and never any problems and with a massive saving. I will continue to buy part works for the C7. Always top brands with no side wall damage and normally minimum 6mm of tread.
