4 Buttons & 8 Buttons MMI

Does anybody know why most cars have 2 buttons either side of the MMI and some have 4 buttons either side.

Is this extra features or tied to a particular option?

Yours is 2 either side on the outer edge, I have seen one with another row above.

Are sure you know what you mean, they are all the same, NO 2 button 4 button options.

OK, seemed have possibly found something.

the "2 button" version is RS4/5 and S4/5 in aluminium. Standard A4/5 have the "4 button"version and when you see it in aluminium its an after market button covers it seems.

I can;t find an RS or S with the "4 button" setup but loads of alder A4/5 with this extra button setup.

B8 version, changed when the B8.5 was launched hence no RS with the old layout.

The eight button MMI was the original no cost option DVD based navigation that came with the first round of RS4's from 2012. The four button is the Hard Disk drive based 3G MMI was a cost option that then became standard from about MY14. The DVD based one came with a slightly smaller 6.5" screen whereas the HDD based was 7" and had a better resolution.

Got you. Yes that is the old B8 layout before it had a good menu that moved some of the bits like name, info, setup to the screen. Also the volume button didn't do the previous and next so that is two more.

The weird thing is your pic. That's either a crazy early one or it's actually modified

The reason for my confusion was this picture is supposed to be from a 15 plate car advertised on Auto trader.

Baffled by that if I'm honest. "Exclusive controls package". No idea what that is.

Doesn't matter as I am not interested in that car, I was curious more than anything.

Not sure I'd class that as a low mileage one??? My Feb 15 car is just under 19k, I'd say that's average mileage at best! That car is a "limited edition" car, the wheels were on the end of line model, came with a few bits like that on it but not that different. Not sure on the premium for it though.
