I have been toying with the idea of modding my RS4 since picking her up afew months ago and decided to bite the bullet and go down a similar route to my old MK4 GTi and old 3.2 TT. H&R coilovers were first on my list followed by Milltek 100 cell racing cats, backbox and remap...
Picked up my RS4 H&R coilovers afew weeks ago and arranged to get them fitted at Elite (Rainham)...
After picking up the coilovers (through a group buy on the B5 S4 forum), i drove down to Elite and arrived at 1 O'clock 'ish. 'Take a seat for a few hours' the guy said, so when 6 o'clock rolled around i was suprised that they had only just finished the rears!! Anyway, they close at six, but carried on working till about 8!!! Then I think they gave up and told me it will have to stay with them until tommorrow! So i had no other option but to get a train home from Rainham home (a 2 hour trip) then the next day get a train back in (another 2 hours waisted!). I picked the car up and WOW!!! The standard RS4's sit quite low, but now the stance is amazing and the handling has really been transformed, i really can point it in any direction and it goes. I have some issues with grounding, but as long as i take speed bumps nice and SLOW its not too bad.
I managed to get a secondhand RS4 milltek backbox from an old forum member (golfather) who lives just round the corner from me and was selling his RS4 (bargin!) and sourced the cats and downpipes from Awsome (Group buy again!). So last Wednesday it was up to AMD in Bicester for the fitting and stage 3 re-map. As i had saved money getting the Milltek i also went for an AWE boost gauge. I left the car with them and picked it up on sat morning...
The results are really amazing (448 bhp & 420 lb ft @ 5839 rpm) the standard RS4 is fast, but after the re-map and Milltek it really flys. The drive home from Bicester was fun to say the least and over in a flash!! i was gonna stop there but now I'm saving for a 6 pot brake upgrade and may be some 19's. Hopefully then I will have a car that i can cart the dog around in and that i am 100% satisfied with performance wise.
I know i have already spend loads on the RS4 (even though most parts were group buys!) and will never see that money again, but it really is worth it just for the grin on my face every time i get behind the wheel...
my RS4 transformed...
