Installing Phatnoise

Post by jonathanb » Mon Aug 29, 2005 12:11 pm

Just got a Phatbox from the US at £150 duty paid. It is brand new and looks good and pootentially will sound good. However, Ido not seem to be able to get the cradle to work even though I have bought a new power supply from Maplins with 7.5v and 1000ma output. Any one got a view on what I am doing wrong?

PS this thing costs about £700 from an Audi dealer so I would accept having to buy a new cradle if I really had to.

Kind regards

Err... I run my cradle at 12volts, 1200mA max. It's been working fine like that for more than two years.

I'm running 12V 1000mA.

Have you checked that the little metal contact in the cradle isn't bent down. It advises to bend it up if your having problems as it could be not making contact.

Now tried all of that and increasedd the voltage on the power supply but still does not seem to be working. I guess I will have to get hold of the delaer in the US and get a second cradle- what a pain.

Thanks for your help anyway.

I am clearly as think as a plank as reversing polarity on my"user selectable" transformer has transformed the cradle into a fully functioning piece of kit (in other words I had the plug in the wrong way round!!!)

Phatnoise Phatbox is a must have. It's basicly a hard drive that you can store up to 500 cds on the 20 gb cartrage, and go up to 120 gb see attachment for a basic idea. Or go to phatnoise.com for more info on the products. I just bought one and should get it thursday, but will have to wat till santa gives it to me before i can play with it.

Sorry having problems adding attachments. The server im on down in South Afrika is so slow, but what i also wanted to say that it replaces your cd changer, and the install sounds qiute simple, if you by a Audi or VW branded box.

Johnathan, where did you get your Phatbox from?

Did you fit it yourself?

i'm just gettting one and will be fitting it in the space for the cd changer in the boot. I will have to modife the mounting bracket holes to place it further back, to avoid cutting hole in the cover to acomidate the cartreage.
Gollich i curantly doing this and we'll see how it gose and try and get some pic's of the install.
Not sure if this is the same in the RS6 but i would think that it should basicly be the same just some extra holes drilled in the bracket.
there is more info on this in Electrcal forum. Most people have got them from ebay Audi branded 20gb about 220 pounds from UK. I think there is one in the cassifieds under 200.
