Yeah. I watched and read the eCOTY. It was good, I liked how it was in Schottyland and while I love that the Golf placed so high, I cannot help thinking that a factory car with no rear seats, half cage and cup tyres (option) should really be confined to the eTCOTY.

I think I would struggle to buy a FWD car these days. Never thought I'd say it, but that Alfa looks pretty good.

Yeah, I would normally agree with you on that one, Shop.
However, I drive a 56 plate FWD Fiat HP100 for most of my little trips now.
It weighs like 850kgs, has an LSD, no TC and a sport button that unassists the steering for great road feel. It also has some 'interesting' suspension and geometry for the road. That said, it is an absolute hoot to drive, it feels twice as fast than you're actually traveling at any time and I can usually deploy all of its power in most circumstances. It grips like a gold-digger in a Hamptons country club and hauls ancor better than an old dog enroute to the vets.
A good FWD car is rare thing and after getting to know the HP100 I wouldn't rule out another FWD, now for my hypocritical moment, its replacement arrives in February, a brand new AWD 'crossover'. I can't see me selling the HP100 though, some new pads, fluids, filters and triple eights - I'm going to run it as a track car for a year.

The wifey-mobile (mk5 Gti DSG) now sports VW racing springs, GYF1 tyres, BCS full exhaust, and a bluefin remap to 240ish bhp. It's great fun!!! Great all-rounder.

Brakes are crap though - that'll be next.

That's noice. I wish I could get the missus to drive a Golf, I had a good Golf R biz lease lined up, so I take her to sit in a brand new one. Hates it. Says she see them everywhere. Same with the buying the Panda, it took 6 months to settle on it, 6 months of showing her cars (she's never read a car review in her life and never will). Finally got her to test drive one. Couldn't stop her making silly offers. I had to replace most of the suspension a month later. That 'crossover' I've ordered? A Skoda Yeti L&K in Jungle Metallic Green. She sees one on the school run, loves it. She said I can order wherever as the family run around but she won't drive it. So we've all been piling into the Panda for 6 months and arguing over very good cars that she would never drive, just because the shape of a headlight, or a wheel 'pattern' or because it has even less practicality than the Panda.
So, it all came back to the Yeti, every, single, fcuking, time. Never end up with a designer, they think their profession gives them the authority about all aesthetics.
Yes. I'm bitter.

/Well overdue rant.
