Should I change ?

Post by qwick69 » Mon Dec 19, 2016 2:43 pm

I have had my RS6 for 30 months now and fancy a change. I thought about an s8 plus, but despite 4 attempts at trying to get my local dealer to quote me a PX against a new one, let alone trying to sort out a demo, I have given up with Audi.
I am considering a Porsche Panamara, Merc C class AMG C63s Estate an an Alfa, but to be honest, I am struggling to justify the change. When I put all my criteria down on paper I end up with the same Vehicle, an RS6. the only thin I wwant is a bit more luxery, hence why the s8
So, I might just have to get another RS6, just with a few more toys and the plus version, but then I think about the poor service I have received from Audi. Its a pity that a brand has the perfect car, but people areput off because of the experience of buying and owning it.
Just think what Audi could do if they improved customer service.
So, back to thinking of an alternatiive car... its a tough one

The new Alfa Quadrifoglio has an estate version coming out on the not too distant future. I drove a test mule around Millbrook and it was very nice indeed. A bit of a harder ride than the RS6 (I'm on air), the adaptive damper settings went from super hard to mildly jiggly. Cabin was less plush than the Audi with a few naff plastics but in no way was it a nasty place to be.
In general the driving dynamics were better with a lot more feel coming back through your seat and steering wheel. The brakes were very, very impressive.
The new Stelvio is coming out as well, will carry the same engine and early reports say it'll be best in class.

I'm half thinking of ditching the RS6 before all the 3 years finance boys come out of their deals and getting the Quadrifoglio. Alfa treated me like an actual customer. Audi treat me like sausage number 436 in the sausage factory, I've had 4 major faults in 12 months (geo out by a mile upon delivery, brakes & pads replaced after 3k miles, electric folding mirror croaked twice) and I don't like it. Perhaps I just have a Friday car

I couldn't settle with the c63 and live in the wet part of the country so prefer a bit more traction.

Here's my list of potentials:

Tesla P100D (range anxiety issues)
Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio
Stelvio QV (assuming it's dynamically up to the job)
Panamera
I-Pace

The other side says just hang on to 2017-18 for a boat load of new EV's from the big manufacturers.

E63s estate arrives next year. 4WD. Great exhaust sound.
Outfield choice if you don't need an estate astion rapide S, running cost permitting.

I am seriously thinking of the E63. Direct comparison really, and I do like the Panamara. The only problem with the Porsche is you cannot get any discount. All other brands you can. I compared the Panamara against an s class AMG, and when both cars were speced to how I wanted them, and the Merc discount was taken off, together with the cheaper finance deals, the Merc AMG s Class came out quite a few thousand pounds cheaper.
As for the Rapide S... I also have a 2012 DBS Volanta, I feel two astons would be a bit over the top

Yep, the reality is that Porsche is a big price difference due to complete lack of discount (maybe floormats if you're lucky!). However, they do tend to reward you when it comes to residuals. In fact, they definetly do.

The new Panamera is a massive improvement in looks, but the RS6 just looks 'right'. The new E Class looks a better proposition than before, and they seem to have finally sorted their horrid interiors, but my opinion is that a new RS6 will follow after and steal the show. From a service point of view, i've never felt Mercedes were any special.

I'm sorry to hear about people having troubles, but my car has been fine thus far. I still think the interior is a lovely place to be and i've had all the latest Porsches, so if anything should be biased. Only thing i miss is not having a heated steering wheel in this weather!

I was mocked for ordering a heated wheel in my RS6 PE due to the lack of flat bottom. However I can report my hands are nice and warm!

Heated wheel is gay. Do you keep your car in a blast freezer?

Flat bottom wheel and remote start FTW. Car is warm, bum is warm and oil is warm as soon as you get in the car.

Remote start is a bit 1990s demon tweaks innit. Bruv.
