Insurance costs !

Post by Smarttech » Wed Nov 09, 2016 8:24 am

Looking at ordering a new RS6 so thought I would check the insurance cost on Gocompair.com and was shocked when the cheapest came back at £1798.
I'm 42 with a clean license and full NCB. Car would be garaged and I only do 5000 miles per year.

Currently I drive a BMW M3 with all mods declared and only pay £430 per year. I was expecting it to be more but nearly £2k per year sounds expensive or is that about right for an RS6 ?

What sort of money are you lot paying for insurance and who do you use ?

Postcode will be the biggest factor. And garage often carries a premium as damage is more likely to occur.

Try Admiral, they quoted me £280. I went with LV at £470.

Something seems amiss, I would recheck your quote or go to the other comparison sites.

Most insurers will not insure a car over £74,999 so if you are paying less than this (Which most people do after discount) then don't over inflate its value.

Perhaps there have been a spate of RS6 thefts in your area and the reasoning for the silly premiums? Try a quote for an M5, E63 AMG etc.

I'm only £350pa, 33, with protected no claims, 3 points speeding, 10k mileage.

Admiral get very poor ratings in Which's survey of insurers. I also cannot believe that an £85K car can be comprehensively covered for £280, so I skipped Admiral.

Yep, i would never insure with Admiral or their associated companies. For the sake of a few hundred quid on a £75k+ car, i would want the best service as opposed to the cheapest price.

Not to say you shouldnt' be shopping around though! Sadly , the RS6 seems to be a a bit of a thief magnet. I'm therefore not surprised it's more than your M3.

My quotes came to about £400 with go compare for a brand new car valued at 78k. But as I wanted to modify it I went with Adrian flux for 600 standard then a £50 raise once modified.
I expect next year as the value of the car drops below 75k it should get much cheaper.

Problem solved. I was putting in the list price that the dealer gave me of £90k and not what I would pay with the discount.
Just put in £75k and getting quotes from £475 per annum.
Thanks for the pointers and advice, having never spent this much on a car before I didn't know about the £74999 limit most insurance company's put on quotes.

If the car actually costs more than £75K then the insurance company may well declare that this is a fraudulently obtained policy and void it in the event of a claim.

LV insured me at the purchase price (£83K)

This. I do not know why anyone would take a punt on their insurance.
