oil cooler fabrication

has anybody had fabricated,or managed to purchase an item similar to the forge outlet to oil cooler with its -12 type connectors allowing fitment of a setrab or similar cooler...any pointers would be fine[not to a whole forge kit though please] mine seem fine but i want to piece together a kit that works for a decent outlay

What is that you are trying to achieve? If you don't mind me asking. I have been looking for a solution to hight temp on the track but since the main cooling is performed by coolant to oil heat exchanger and not actual oil cooler which is made my setrab by the way, I am kinda out of ideas

Are you sure? There are only 2 connectors on the oil cooler; an inlet and outlet.

Are you sure? There are only 2 connectors on the oil cooler; an inlet and outlet.

Yes very sure
Hot oil usually takes a path of least resistance and hardly ever circulates in the cooler under heavy load

But that coolant cooler is not within the oil cooler that is at the front of the car that fails (or pipes to it fail). Sounds like the OP is trying to make a replacement using a Setrab cooler not necessarily make a more efficient cooler. Just a cheaper alternative to the Forge. And for this he needs pipes which use the audi fitment at one end and the normal type connection at the other for the Setrab. I may be wrong of course but that is what it sounded like to me.

thats correct-i want to make it all non audi components with exception of the block to cooler interface,which will be modded to take -12 fitting

Yeah that's why I was asking in hopes Arthur came up with a new brilliant solution but as a cheaper alternative to OEM, I am afraid I am no help here.

I'd guess if you call Forge they will sell you just that part then you can do the rest yourself. I've always found the. To be most helpful.

thats exactly what i"m after-astonishing price for what is a very cheap part to make
i will probably need to get a pair of old lines[or the block ends] and get them modified..is it just me or is it not a tad annoying when a very simple item is priced up to take advantage of a bad issue from manufacturers-those fittings in any other guise would be max £50 a pair

for example-my other v8 atm-928s4-oil cooler unavailable except from porsche-and hard to get at that -around 4-500 quid
a local fabricator made this item up for me using my own end tanks at around 1/4 of the price at mates rates

Logically, try to drop the coolant temp then. If available, use a colder thermostat, better coolant (distilled water w/ water wetter just switch it out before winter) and, depending on what the fans are normally doing, maybe a manual switch for more airflow.

would it be possible to pick up the oil cooler lines and chop them and fit the -12 type connectors somewhere along them?
I got shut of my old oil cooler a while back for £100 I think - the connectors on the pipes at engine end looked ok...

yes,exactly that-and fit a generic cooler-or even a modded standard one with ends to suit normal fittings-saves the relocation etc..
a repair for a little fabrication,two lengths of hose and a handfull of an12 fittings,future proofs the car too
