Unknown RS2 warning light - help

Post by r13ras » Tue Mar 25, 2003 3:34 pm

Does anyone know what the following warning light means, I can't find it in the user manual and it's flashing!!

Position is bottom row far left in the warning light matrix between the speedo and rev counter. Image is profile of car with front and back wheels with the area around the prop shaft/rear wheels highlighted.

Is this a propshaft/diff issue?

Have noticed that there seems to be some vibration from the rear axle when starting off from rest when turning right (ie from a T junction).

Many thanks, R

Sounds like the diff lock. Isn't it supposed to disengage above 25mph? Have you tried pressing the diff lock button in the center console?

Phil
Have tried in past and the switch seems to be functioning. Would be interested if anyone knows what actual problem the warning relates to eg low diff oil etc etc. Car seems smooth when driving and there's no whine. I spoke to local Audi dealer but they had little to offer having only ever seen one RS2.
I'm back with the car at the w/e so will check the diff lock switch still works. Is there a way of testing the diff lock operation?

Thanks again, Rowland

Turn it on and do a full lock turn, you should hear the tyres scrubbing. Actually, that sounds like the problem your having.... Have you got abnormal tyre wear?

Will check at w/e but don't think tyres are wearing unevenly. May be that diff lock switch whilst appearing to work (ie lights up) is actually not turning lock off hence scrabble at low speeds when turning. Hope it's not buggered, sounds expensive

Aah the benefits of being able to take your car to a workshop that has dealt with more than one RS2 and can compare your car with others of that ilk. Thanks to John for the tip re Kim Collins at QST - I'm lucky enough to be able to do just that.
