not the usual reasons.

Its a really fun exciting car to drive. I can have huge fun at more or less sensible speeds and the wife can get over 39mpg

Wife's father suddenly took very unwell and I reckon my wife will end up doing a lot of miles taking him back and forth to hospital for the foreseeable future and the RS3 is not the car for that. I need something that is easy and comfy for her to drive. She loves driving the RS3 apart from the suspension.

The 8P RS3 gets a lot of stick but overall I am very happy with it. coupe things really annoy me. none of which could not be fixed given time and money but I don't have the time.

*Suspension is just crazy hard and soooo uncomfy.
*Seating position is horrible, you sit up way too high maybe because it has the option electric seats.
*I have got to admit the tech is a bit old. I know someone did say I would not like it.
*Road noise, although soundproofing the rear made a huge difference not had time to do the front.

I searched and searched for a New 8V RS3 with mag suspension but none in the country that I could find and I was deffo not paying £45k for a poorly specked second hand one. So ordered a new S3 saloon with mag ride, Virtual cockpit and a couple of other options. I have driven one and although its not limo comfy its a huge step in the right direction compared to the RS3. I will wait and see what the new RS3 saloon looks like next year and go from there. If rumors are correct its going to be very late release next year. the big but in there is the price though. if its going to be like the TTRS and £50k base spec I will be sticking with the S3 as it represents much better value for money and as tuneable.

the new 2017 S3 seems to get very good reviews in especially in terms of handing and the way it can put loads more power to the rear and make it entertaining. 310ps and the new 7 speed s-tronic its no slouch either.

Just generally lurk on here now as I don't fit in with the clique!

Car sounds nice - what colour?

Was trying to get the old man to get one but he is going for either the new A4 3.0tdi (top power one) or a 435d GT. He is also changing mums to a new A3 2.0 sport or something - God knows why she needs the 2.0!

Look forward to seeing yours

My wife is looking at either the 240i or s3 convertibles. She's got a 330d at the moment.

I'm favouring the s3.

As you know I usually go for Blue or Grey but decided Black this time. it was going to be Panther black but unless you are up close you don't really get the effect. so brilliant black it is. I really fancied something different, purple or the like but no options. I guess they are keeping fancy colours for the new RS3 next year?

my only compliant with Audi is the lack of sound proofing. BMW always seem to spend a bit more cash on reducing cabin noise. None of the performance BMs have 4 WD so no interest to me. The 435d is a great looking car though I was very tempted but the 2.0 petrol is not far off MPG wise and just a bit more fun I think?

You must be due some new cars?? 3 to 4 years usually then you swap them all out. Anything exotic in mind??

The new s3 is a lovely drive apart from road noise lol but I guess on the whole I always moan about that. The M5 and RS6 were fine but it seems anything less is a bit of a compromise re noise

Yer have had the 330d as she was doing loads of work miles. She's mainly getting the train everywhere.

The 330d is also the MSport and is so uncomfortable! So the s3 with the mag ride as you say is a must.

But the noise isn't too bad, she's mainly going to be using it for a couple of 50 mile round trips a week and then the station and back for the rest.

Besides she turns the radio ok so loud she can't hear the car! There's another option...

don't get me wrong the noise is not bad its just on the verge of being annoying. I have had loads worse but its when I jump in the father in-law's 208 and find its way quieter its annoying that Audi scrimp on in my view one of the important things.

Still looking forward to its arrival which is not like me.

The c6 was too deadened. Everyone told me the stock exhaust sounded great, bugged if I could hear it from the drivers seat!

Interesting you say this - I swear my dads 2015 A3 has more road noise than his previous shape? Whilst the engine is quieter and smoother, the car certainly sounds noisier, especially when sat in the back. Current has 18" Continentals, old shape was on 17" Goodyears, so not really a fair comparison, the ride is definitely firmer. We'll be fitting 17" Nokian winter wheels soon, hopefully this improves the ride and softens the noise!

poor show aint it!

The S3 I drove was on 19s but a Fastback. I ordered the Saloon so fingers crossed the rear will be slightly quieter anyway and only leave the front to be sound proofed??

Sound proofing the rear of my current RS3 made a big difference and only took a few hours. The front will take longer but the results should be worth it.

Yeah you would think newer materials would allow greater sound proofing and not carry a cost or weight penalty.
