Does ACC light the brake lights?

Post by HDPete » Wed Aug 24, 2016 7:13 pm

Obviously it must do under strong braking, if for example someone pulls into the sensible gap you've left. But does it light them up at other times when it decides to ease off a bit?

I'm asking because I get sick of <beep> continually flashing their brake lights for no reason and not using the engine (and their eyes!), and I fear I may be becoming one of those <beep>!

I think I read that it the brake lights come on whenever the ACC applies the brakes, so not when it backs off but when it actually starts braking. I am conscious of this and think people following me must think I can't drive properly.

Snap, when on ACC on motorways/Duel carriage ways (even on A roads.... God I'm getting old...) I'm conscious of people thinking I can't drive because of the car automatically putting the brakes on more than it should.
But I'm going to assume, ACC in 'comfort mode' would brake less than ACC in 'Dynamic mode'.

I picked mine up at 18k miles, front & rear discs/pads had to be changed due to wear, plus there was a slight shuddering when braking. I'm going to assume also, although ACC takes a lot of hassle away from motorway cruising, on busy journeys it uses a lot of life out the pads/discs. Catch 22!

I find the red forward alert warning a little over zealous.

Think of it as a stone chip warning.
