Agreed. I'm a bit rusty on it all, but I think load index of 170 indicates Stage 1 remap.

And there is no magic/rescue button I guess.. The one that would bring everything to stock...

Well, actually, there is a way - I've done it.

After my major rebuild:
  • I backed up the stage 1 tune,
  • reverted to stock to check everything was good
  • Coded out the SAI
  • Then modified and reloaded the stage 1 tune to remove SAI as well
Sweegie is the guru on this, he helped me loads. But http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/ is the place to start reading.

Roughly, assume your map is locked for reading (if non stock, then most likely is), then you need a piece of software called galletto and a lead to match it.
You then pull the ecu from the car and power it up on the bench while jumping a couple of pins - this puts it in boot mode, so you can backup the existing tune.
Then you can pop it back in the car and apply any tune you want using the nefmoto software - stock copies of the map are on the nefmoto site, too.

i had similar issues and it turned out it was one of the spark plugs and a coil, also carefully inspect the coils harness, they tend to crack at this age and you'll get a short to ground which doesn't comes up on VCDS...

If there's an issue with one psark plug and/or one ignition coil, the computer would show you that this cylinder misfired, wouldn't it?..
But mine shows random misfire...

It's not very good at detecting exactly which cylinder is misfiring.
