AMD vs MRC
AMD vs MRC
Guys
I'm sure its been discussed before; anyone with direct experience of both - its time for a remap me thinks....
Also reference exhaust - I have the sports one fitted - is it worth taking out the cats, leaving the pre cats in, which I assume will release some extra bhp, or just ditch it for a Miltek?
Loving the car.....

Re: AMD vs MRC
Had both maps (not C7). Have had several MRC maps and hands down much better. It's not even the power output that is important, it's the driveability.
Re: AMD vs MRC
No experience with AMD but have known a few that have went down that path (on other VAG cars) with no complaints. Not aware of anyone with the AMD tune on the RS6 though, MRC pretty much has the market for the RS cars.
Reference exhausts, my advice would be the full Milltek, you can't gut the standard downpipes without cutting and welding them so you're best off with an aftermarket decat solution. The cats in the downpipes need to go if you're after the power, they release around 50hp with the Stage 2 tune. Milltek have designed their system so that you can't just buy their downpipes and mate it to the rest of the standard exhaust system so you either have to buy their catback section to mate with their downpipes or visit an exhaust Shop that can bodge the 2 together. I would go down the full system though to allow the extra flow. The standard system is fairly restrictive at 2 x 2.25, the Milltek opens this up to 2 x 2.75 all the way through. This allows for better flow and better heat management. Of course you'll also open up the sound of the exhaust too. You can get a resonated or a non resonated centre section. The non resonated is loud, let's say 100% noise, the resonated is still loud but at around 85%. I chose the resonated section and no complaints, it's loud, deep and purposeful and loud enough for my ears.
There's two options for the downpipes, a 3 inch cerakote coated and a 2.76 inch uncoated. The 3 inch downpipes are about twice the price of the 2.76 inch downpipes. £1400 vs £700 ish. Arguably the 3 inch downpipes will be better but unless going for big power applications, Stage 3 hybrid or big turbo then I think they are overkill. They have to be brought down to 2 x 2.76" anyway to mate with the rest of Milltek's system. No need for the fancy coating unless you're boosting big numbers either. I chose the 2.76 inch downpipes and have been running them fine no probs. You can get the catback section for around £15-1750 I think depending on which version.
Stage 1, software only around 680-700hp
Stage 2, software and full exhaust around 740-750hp
Think that's about it.

Thanks for the replies and a very comprehensive answer on the exhaust - will opt for a stage 1 and a miltek me thinks....

Re: AMD vs MRC
Had both MRC and AMD on my A4 2.0t. Preferred AMD over all. Had my A1 mapped at AMD. No complains! Had my RS4 b7 mapped at AMD, no complains! But would like to try MRC tune for comparison..

Re: AMD vs MRC
Iain, if you go for the full Milltek, it will be a Stage 2 tune. If you go for just the catback Milltek (so no power gain, only noise) it will be a Stage 1.
Both are the same price anyway as far as I know, it's just dependent on the exhaust setup

Cheers Leo - Didn't know that reference Stage 2 - was just going to go catback.

The MRC and AMD maps are like night and day difference on the B7, you are missing out on so much with that AMD map.Pule333 wrote:Had both MRC and AMD on my A4 2.0t. Preferred AMD over all. There's only one place I'd take my C7 for a remap, and that's MRC.

Just read the previous threads discussing this where people have had the amd map then gone to mrc and really pleased with how much better the mrc map was.

I mean I am very happy with my AMD stage2 file. But don't fancy spending £600+ just to test MRC.
If anyone with MRC st2 keen to put this to the test, I am all ears

Re: AMD vs MRC
No, but ive read enough to know that the amd tine doesnt have the same Sport mode that the MRC one does. Listen to people that have driven both. Happy to let you drive mine if it was still around. 10 seconds in sport mode is all you need.
