Anyone used a trolley jack on the C7?

Post by MikeFish » Wed Jun 01, 2016 9:39 pm

I tried to jack the car up last week with a trolley jack. After pulling off the plastic sill cover I found more bits of plastic that don't really leave enough room to get the round plate of a trolley jack onto the body. If you've looked at the supplied jack you'll notice it has a round barrel type top that sits in the plastic bit on the car. I found some C6 adapters on ebay so thought I'd try give them a go. I've got one now and it looks like a perfect fit. However, it is quite high and I'm not sure there is enough room to get the adapter and trolley jack under the car to start lifting it. I only looked while it was sitting in a ditch on the gravel drive so it might be ok when on a solid surface but I suspect it will still be too low.
How do you guys lift the car?

I've used a normal trolley Jack no issues.

However round "top" on Jack fitted fine on plastic mount blocks

Hmmm, maybe I missed the mount blocks. Unless we are talking about the same bit that the standard jack uses? In which case on my car there were too many other plastic covers in the way to get a good connection. I could get it on there but it meant some of the plastic underbody covers were pushed slightly.

I use one of these. Search ebay for Audi Jacking Pad. It fits into the slot well and does not damage anything. I started with a rubber pad of a similar shape which distorted, the build of this is great, made from milled aluminium. Image. I have no connection to the seller

That's pretty much what I bougjt except mine was made out of an old hockey puck. That one jas a slimmer base though so might be worth a try.

Would be good to have the eBay links peeps. Along with a traditional "its a mess out there, you choose if you follow my path based on your own considerations"

I found the one above on eBay as well as some nicer ones but they cost a lot more. I'll post links tonight when I get home

And the better looking one, but it is about £43:
