Road tax question

Post by Jess » Thu May 26, 2016 10:55 pm

Can someone answer this question please about road tax end dates not being last day of the month

Hypothetically,...I buy a used car to collect on say the 10th of June from a car dealer as approved car ( the current car tax has already run out at the end of April) and the dealer offers to include 6 months road tax as part of the deal.

So, If I go and pay for/collect this car on the 10th of June, will I get road tax that then finishes on the 9/10th of the month in 6 months time.... so around the 9th of December ? The dealer is telling me that is what happens these days and that it is only new cars 1st road tax that finishes at the end of the calendar month when 1st registered. This sounds odd to me as I have always seen road tax finishing at end of month for used and new cars also.

I'm confused so please help

Dealer is talking sh1t. It would make more sense this way - like insurance and mot. But tax doesn't work like this. Tax is per calendar month

Was joking about this with salesman the other day, we are collecting a new car Saturday 28th, joked we've got to pay a months tax for three days usage. The car is £20 a year tax

Hi Ian,

...He was very convincing though, and I am not normally that gullible.

Mine is £490 :bigblink:

Runs month to month mate. Which is crap if you are a private seller private buyer set up as you end up both paying for the same month as they only refund full months.

My B8 just cost £500 to tax... Realise goes with the ownership of a large engine, thirsty V8 but I still wouldn't say is cheap.

Road tax question

Post by RS_Four » Fri May 27, 2016 7:41 pm

Ouch. We all want to hope they don't put rates up on existing and older cars by the same extent as new..... We'll each be paying £1700 tax next year
