Drive Select question
Drive Select question
Hi guys. I finally take delivery of my new RS6 on 4th June and have a question about the Drive Select in the RS6.
I have owned a lot of Audis (over 20) and I currently have an RS5 Cabriolet and an SQ5, so am used to using Drive Select.
I drive the RS5 in Individual with everything set to Dynamic except Suspension set to Comfort, so I press the Drive Select button quickly 5 times to rotate back round to Individual every time I start the car, which I do without thinking. Exhaust note changes.
As the Drive Select is accessed in the RS6 by going into CAR in the MMI, will I still need to move out of Individual and back again using the MMI each time I start the car? I will be driving it in Sport with paddles.
I didn't go for the PE, so it doesn't have the Drive Select on the wheel.
I hope that makes sense!
Thanks.

Re: Drive Select question
How did you get an SQ7 lol everyone is waiting patiently for the order books to open
previous: RS2, RS4 2.7, RS4 4.2.
Current: S8 PLUS
Current: S8 PLUS
Re: Drive Select question
My 6 stays in whatever I left in the last time - Individual in my case - so no need to touch anything unless I want to change when going along. Try suspension in Auto on the 6, the ride is very good.
Re: Drive Select question
Ooops SQ5. SQ7 must be on my mind. Sorry.
Re: Drive Select question
Mine also stays where it's set in the s8

Re: Drive Select question
Auto is good but it is annoying to have to go through the MMI to set it to full dynamic. I am unsure when you pull the gear selector back to select sport mode if this automatically puts everything into full dynamic mode regardless of what the settings were previously. I know that this definitely opens the flaps in the exhaust.
I have been following this thread with some interest where it is claimed that the Drive select button can be retrofitted to the non PE steering wheel in place of the * button (not just a simple recode in VCDS apparently):
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthrea ... ring-wheel
it is not clear yet to me if this applies only to FL cars or if I can make it work on mine [pre FL- the one with the meaner looking front end

Re: Drive Select question
The drive select mode stays in the last used mode but will always start with the exhaust flaps closed. If you want the flaps to open then you need to cycle through the modes or go into mmi and re-election mode or give a pull on the gear lever to slio it into sport mode which will also open the valves (asumming the mode allows this).
When using the MMI method I tried to test whether you have to actually select a different mode then select the mode you want or whether you can just highlight the mode you want (that you are already in) and press sleelct to activate the flaps. Bit as my flaps were disconnected at the time I couldn't tell if it actually works or not.

Re: Drive Select question
Yes, that seems to be what happens in my RS5. I cycle from Individual back through to Individual to open the flaps. So that when you first start the car from cold, even though it is in the Individual mode that I want, I cycle to get the flaps open. Gear lever into Sport mode doesn't automatically open them on mine.MikeFish wrote:The drive select mode stays in the last used mode but will always start with the exhaust flaps closed. I can see some testing coming when I pick up the car. Having a new car detail applied to it 10 days after delivery so will post some pics.....
Re: Drive Select question
Are you sure? the RS3 is exactly the same and I thought the RS4 was the same, so I'd assume the RS5 to be the same (isn't the engine and gearbox the same as the RS4?).
Pulling the lever into S mode opens the flaps but when you go back into D they close again unless you cycle through the modes first I think (like I said, I can't test this anymore but is quite easy to check for anyone with flaps connected whilst sitting still with the window open).

Re: Drive Select question
Will test it tonight - so used to cycling through the modes and I always drive in sport.
Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Drive Select question
you have to actually select a different mode, then select the one you want rather than just pressing select on the mode you are already in when the car starts. I find this one of the few thing on the car that annoys me.MikeFish wrote:The drive select mode stays in the last used mode but will always start with the exhaust flaps closed. When you pull back on the gear lever and enter sports mode the flaps open but am I right in thinking that other than a longer gear change and the exhaust note that is all putting it into sport does?
Drive Select question
B8 RS4 maintains the last used Drive Select setting upon re-starting engine... No need to toggle through on every re-start. To open, and keep open, the exhaust flaps need to ensure DS is in either Dynamic or Individual by simply pulling great shifter into Sport and back to D.
Shifting into Sport mode will maintain longer but faster gear shifts, faster throttle mapping and a louder exhaust note irrespective of Drive Select setting even if DS is on Comfort. Once shift back to D in this mode will close flaps.

Re: Drive Select question
So to confirm does your RS4 maintain the exhausts flaps open when configured in the Individual setting without having to toggle round or re-select via the MMI nd the engine is re-started?RS_Four wrote:B8 RS4 maintains the last used Drive Select setting upon re-starting engine... My RS4 displays the last used Drive Select setting when re-starting the engine but it loads the Auto parameters, therefore the exhaust flaps will close after start-up even though the drive select confirms that it should be in dynamic. I queried this with Audi when I took the car back to them for warranty work and they confirmed via the VAG COM that even though the display indicates it's in Individual the car is actually configured for the Auto parameters. They also had an RS5 in and confirmed the same thing.
It was provable by setting the exhaust to dynamic in the individual setting, turning the car off and then back on, the exhaust flaps close and don't remain open after start-up, You therefore have to toggle back round to your Individual settings to load them again or re-select Individual via the MMI. The car was not configured for any of the other Individual parameters either.
I initially thought it was an issue but for some reason the system loads the Auto parameters, effectively on boot up of the system when the car is started.
Be interested to know if your's or anybody else's RS4 is different to this.

Drive Select question
Mine doesn't resort to Drive Select Auto mode upon restart and definitely stays in previously selected DS mode upon restart (I check this by pressing DS button once and it shows what setting is in... Individual, Comfort etc). Flaps are initially closed on restart in Individual but select Sport mode opens them and then reslect D they stay open without need to go into MMI or Drive Select settings
