You've certainly got me thinking now Jonny.

This is not something I'm going to rush into.
Anyone know a competent honest garage who charge sensible rates...???

JonnyX,

I think we are in danger of agreeing with each other.

I also have an issue with the prices for supply and fit in the UK. I could get, what I consider a good deal for the supply of the coilovers and ARBs. However looking around my local area I have no confidence, or evidence for that matter, that any of my local garages could fit them properly. This may be a harsh appraisal, and as I don't actually know what is involved in fitting and setting up the kit I have to concede my thinking may be overly cautious. Maybe someone can contibute to this thread and educate us as to what's involved in the setup and level of competence required.

For me it's about avoiding false economics. If Jimmy Joe Jim Bob at Kwik Fit can fit them then fine, I will go with that. Trouble is I don't know enough - at least the tuning houses have done it - even if their customer service can be questionable at times.

Dazzer - I think you're in danger of repeating yourself here...!

Seriously, I'm with you on this one, but I'd be very cautious about giving to the local Saxo tuner, as DavidT said if they get it wrong it's awful, and even the so called specialists seem to be able to make a mess of it.

Some education please guys of what's involved...

I was hoping to source mine from Tire Rack in the states (As we order things from them anyway), but they are out of stock until at least next week. I was hoping I could get someone in our workshop to fit them for me, but if it's going to be tricky then that might not be the best idea.

Neil,

I 'm no hurry, so "next week" is quite soon enough for me.

Dazzer and I are not far away from Manchester, so if we can arrange a group buy on the kits, is there a "group fitment" deal in the air? (assuming you're satisfied your workshop is up to it)

What's the Tire Rack price?

Tire rack looks to be about 1164$ (670 GBP, give or take). I would worry about the shipping and duty on these.

I was thinking of:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 84601&rd=1

But my German is crap.

Importing from the US will incur VAT for sure, and possibly import duty of circa 5%+. So adding at least 22.5% to the US price brings us to a hefty £820, but still cheaper than AMD.

But German's not much better, but Altavista's effort says :-

"H&R of thread chassis with the use of high-quality 1-Rohr-Gasdruckstossdaemfpern with shortened absorber housing for the reaching of larger remainder spring travels realizes H&R an optimal stepless vertical adjustment in the inserted condition. The oh leg with the "Upside down technology" from the engine haven resists transverse forces better than a usual "Zweirohr" Achsbein. The absorber works also under high load always actuated and is "first choice" for sporty road vehicles and engine haven employment. New commodity -Buyer carries forwarding expenses at a value of 10 euro."

The one word in there I did understand "1-Rohr-Gasdruckstossdaemfpern" isnt translated but doesnt need to be!

The ebay "Risk-it-Now" price works out at about £665, no duty, no VAT?
Certainly no duty, but we would have to clarify the VAT.

Hi Clives,

Just mailed the guy. He reckons 22Euro for shipping (get in!)
You don't pay VAT on goods which originate in the EC.

I just emailed him back to see if he will do a discount if we purchase a certain number of sets.
However, 665 + 15 quid delivery is going to be hard to beat anywhere. Sounds too good to be
true.....

Cheers,

Jon

Well this was when I was thinking of getting a single set. As I have occasionally done in the past, I would have just slipped them in with our regular parts from the states... but this rules out ordering a number of sets (plus it's technically illegal). And our workshop is definitely no specialist. I'm sure they could fit them no problem, but setting them properly is another issue.
With the sort of price listed by JonnyX above, I'd be more inclined to go that way if we could find somewhere that would fit them properly for a reasonable fee.

How hard can these thing be to fit????

As long as the shocks are all set to the same height as a benchmark and as long as you have the tools, 4 or bolts and bobs your uncle....or am I being naive..?

It's not the fitting that will be the issue...it's the alignment after fitting.

You might want to try

http://www.powerstation.org.uk/

for the fitting/alignment. I've always had superb results using Powerstation on the Impreza.

Also http://www.elite-design.co.uk/frameset3.html Elite do a decent job or you might want to try http://www.strandsecure.co.uk/internet/ ... rsport.nsf again I've used them for Porsche work in the past and they are also very good.

I think the procedure is:

Ride height
Corner weights
Suspension geometry at all four corners
Four wheel alignment

Someone can correct this if it's wrong.

OK, part number is 29471-1 (which I think is what we want)

He said to me 970E including shipping to the UK

His email is ebay@bogysoft.de

See above for the ebay.de shop link. To me this is a bargain and I am
seriously tempted......

I did the same Jon, and got pretty much the same answer, price includes VAT.

So that's about £670 delivered UK. From what I'm reading, I can't imagine there's more than a couple of hours work involved, so maybe £200 inlc VAT?
Job done for less than £900, that's 30% cheaper than AMD - if you're listening AMD : we have a group purchase proposal for you at £870 per vehicle fitted incl VAT, minimum 5 vehicles.

Alternatively, we need to find an outfit that will competently fit them (and setup) at a sensible price.
