Buying used...

Post by vestax32 » Tue May 10, 2016 3:48 pm

As most of you are aware, I am I. The market for another C7. Starting to consider non Audi dealers/private. Only after 2014 onwards now, so all possibles will still be under manufacturers warranty, but what would you all suggest to be a savvy list of things to look out for and questions to ask?

Only thing to consider Privatly is you will have far less comeback if any issues. Unless you know the car and owner I would stick to a dealer for this kind of vehicle or get it professionally checked over.
I think you were unlucky with that last one. Just check for any signs of accident damage, paint condition, even panel gaps. Check tyre wear is even across the Tyres etc.

When you say stick to a dealer, do you mean Audi or just any dealer including independent? I went to look at this yesterday, was very clean and tidy, thoughts?;

And am tempted by this, although would involve getting a plane to Glasgow and would clean me out money wise;

Yes seen this, spoke to them yesterday. Seems ok, but won't budge at all on price, and a lot of terrible reviews if you search the web....

Plenty of good independent dealers out there. Don't know those guys particularly but it's a one owner low mileage car that is local so you can have a good look around drive etc so could be a good bet?

I would be more than happy to buy a car privately but would want good balance of manufacturer's warranty (not an issue with later C7s due to age). Indeed I bought extended warranty with mine when I ordered it with this in mind. Plan is to sell with 18 months full manufacturer's warranty - a fastidiously cared for one owner car with full warranty that undercuts dealer priced cars by a few grand should sell easily.

I only ever used to buy off dealers but having seen how they buy stock - blind as often as not - I think private sellers often have better cars. Finance can be an issue on private deals though. And frankly I trust private sellers more on reporting accident damage - most dealers don't know or care. Plus first thing most owners do if they have a suspect car is part ex it.

PS my facelift car is gray with carbon, pano roof, sports exhaust, red calipers etc. Would be perfect for you if we were 18 months down the line :(

Would be careful about being cleaned out. I picked up my brand new one end of March and have had close to £600 worth of new tyres already. She's not cheap.

So this is the one I am now very interested in;

http://www.carreraspecialistcars.co.uk/ ... 2251383490

Would mean a travel but that's fine if it's for the right car. Only slight niggle, it's 3 owners on the log book. Apparently Audi demo, then two private owners since and the are currently selling it for the 3rd owner. Low mileage for 3 owners?! Have spoken to http://www.a4audi.co.uk
Who are happy to have the car in for a thorough examination, and the dealer is also happy to take it to them. Thoughts?

A4Audi get a good name in Glasgow from what i have heard - never used them myself however but would for out of warranty repairs.
Glasgow Audi is just across the road from Carrera but i would avoid them looking at it at all costs.
Never heard of Carrera but i sure someone can help on here - the fact they are happy to take it over for you probably speaks volumes

Exactly mate, my recent experience with Audi has shown me that I will be much better off having a specialist look the car over than them!

Is that carbon or black pack, can't make it out on my phone?
Long Audi warranty and nice looking car though.

Edited to add: put my reading glasses on, it's carbon. :)
