Autocar RS6 PE Review

I think, as mag reviews go, the review is fairly balanced to be honest.
I went from an F10 M5 to an RS6 because, whilst the M5 really was more fun on a sunny day where the back end would twitch out and you could burn rubber setting off... this was a disaster in poor conditions which we experience all too often in the UK. The RS6 (aside from a little torque steer) just goes in almost any condition. It all depends on what you are after. I remember being completely unable to keep up with an A5 TDi quattro on a sliproad in damp conditions in my M5, which was just annoying. Journalists love rear wheel drive cars because they are more fun on tracks where they spend a lot of their review time. You only have to look at their comments about the four wheel drive 911s like the TTS. The TTS can keep up with an GT3RS round a track despite the GT3RS being close to a race car, no rear seats, awful ride and sticky tyres.. But the TTS is apparently a bit too lacking in feel and "dull".

Although an aged old debate RWD vs. AWD, i really still haven't suffered the traction issues in my M5 you had in yours & that's with just shy of 750bhp. Yes when it's lashing down you need to be cautious, but the same would or at least ought to apply in an AWD car when road conditions worsen. I ran Winter tyres last Winter & although the provide a small confidence boost, they really never excelled as we had no snow & hardly any sub zero temps. I'll use them again this coming Winter as i may as well given they're sat in my garage & it'll be my last Winter with the car. Although a thread about the PE, i feel the M5 on 19"s is night & day better traction wise that the 20"s but that's only an opinion shared with those on 19"s.

I can't lie & say i've never had any moments, but on road or track the car's been almost faultless & in temps of only a couple of degrees above zero i was still able to lap Spa last year in a touch over 3mins with 991 GT3's only a couple of seconds quicker & i was running on MPSS.

That said & not lying again, i am proper looking forward to the arrival of my TTS next year so although i see the RWD being a little more involving correct & the AWD being a little more consistent in more varied conditions, i don't care as i like them both.

Curious as to why you have ruled the M4 Comp out now?

I have ruled out a standard M4 because of the new comp pack car... who would buy the old version when the new one isn't much more and more desirable (probably) at re-sale? However, I don't like the comp pack wheels (and I've tried to!) nor the seats. I test drove a C63 AMG S saloon. It sounded amazing, better than I expected. It also felt a fair bit more powerful than the M3/4, the interior just seems a little bit more premium and I think the external look of the coupe is stunning. The only thing against the Merc is the cost and much lower discounts than either the comp pack (16-18% off) and an RS6 PE (13-14% off (with PCP)).

From my point of view the TTS is brilliant, I love it but I haven't tracked a car now for many years so can't comment on how that will feel for you. I am still considering getting a 991.2 but think I'll probably wait for the next gen car. I don't like the external aesthetic changes they've made to the new version except the rear lights (of course!). The engine compartment grill on the 991.1 is just a work of art (imo) they should have left it alone.
