Slower then my old S4?
Stick with your S4???
Might have been a duff'n? Remember that a car that has been remapped will perform better and there are plenty of other postings about getting the turbos "on song". I had an old Saab 9000 turbo years ago and the turbo lag on that could be measured on a calandar but once on song it'd make your back hurt as it thumped the seat structure.
On the "duff'n" idea - There have been quite a few RS4's recently going into "limp home mode" for one reason or another (mine due to overboosting in the turbos due to an air leak - now rectifed) Could that be it? I know in limp home mode my RS4 is, well how can you put it?..."pants".
I'd suggest you try to have a drive in another RS4 - perhaps one that has been remapped.
Just a few thoughts.

Limp mode is pretty obvious in my experience. Face it, a chipped S4 has LOTS more low and mid-range torque than a stock RS4, and so a test drive of a stock RS4 will undoubtedly disappoint somewhat. I think you can only really go from a chipped S4 to a chipped RS4, and should therefore only buy a stock one with the intention of chipping it.
With the potential to be gained by chipping these cars I can't see how anyone resists it. I bought my car knowing that I would chip it one day...

Yep okay...but I thought chipped S4 - approx 320bhp, std RS4 380bhp = noticeably faster, perhaps not lighteningly faster but noticeable. But it just wasn't...perhaps too much hype and I expected too much etc. Or perhaps it was but did not feel it...?
Its just that now having driven it I think I could spend a very max of £5k on my car and have a car that performs as well as the RS4 but with much better driveability and without having to rev the pants off it...albeit not anywwhere near the same presence or good looks....on another note and I do love the RS4 and wouldn't have a word said against it, but it has to be driven like the M3 to get the power and if I wanted a car that I had to redline to get power I would go for an M3 every time...over 5k revs the M3 would have the RS4 every time in MHO...
But it does handle like stink and is desperately composed on the road, much easier to drive fast on country roads...
Can you tell I'm dissapointed.....perhaps I will try another on the off chance it was a dodgy one..?

I was getting an m3 for myself before opting for an rs4 as a family rocket,i test drove loads and i have to say the comments about needing to rev an rs4 like an m3 are absolute tosh my rs4 has mental midrange punch and top end power, granted its not standard but i drove a few standard ones while looking,m3s have a very linear power delivery or so it feels,rs4s?ho hum mine goes mental after 2500rpm,i know what you guys mean dont get me wrong ive had small turbo and big turbo escort cosworths.

Okay - my point is that the M3 (Evo) is rewarding in the upper half of the rev range - just like what other car...? The RS4.....whereas S4 has the punch 2-5krpm, RS4 4-7krpm and m3 is 4.5-7.5krpm. But this all refers to std cars...and not a heavily modified RS4 which would (and should) munch pretty much anything.
Now when you get into tuning thats different but I only drove the std and unmolested car.

lucas i would think it would be somewhere near as youve almost turned it into an rs4 with ko4s,rob sorry my mistake thought you were comparing a modified and molested s4 to a std rs4 my mistake.get a go in a modified rs4 bud you will want one believe me,power is in much earlier and stronger they are superb
I have a 328bhp 412/ib/ft s4 and raced a standard rs4 at GTI-International. I beat him all the way to 4th then he started pulling in front. I think the weight and torque helped, it was wet too, I got a 13.79 over the 1/4mile he got 13.75, i beat him well to 60 at 5.2, he got a 5.4

S4 Crazy Horse. Ringsticker & MRC black magic.
I've had both, and can confidently say, an RS4 is quicker than a chipped S4.
The S4 is deceptive as there is a lot of low down torque, so it seems very quick, but its gone far too quickly.
The RS4, takes a tad bit longer to come in, but then youve got the whole rev band to boot and power is strong in every gear.
A chipped RS4 however is another story. Once you've driven one, you will want to buy.
