Re: Exhaust options.
I personally think the only diference between the sport and non sport exhaust is the amount of attenuation in the back boxes. I think if you do the same as myself and the Andys you will get a big improvement which might be enough for you, but I think it will be a bit quieter than the equivalent sports exhaust.
Re: Exhaust options.
Sounds exactly what I am after, for the fraction of the price of an aftermarket system. Thanks for all the advice so far, will report back after I have had work done in next few weeks....MikeFish wrote:I personally think the only diference between the sport and non sport exhaust is the amount of attenuation in the back boxes. And am I right in thinking exhaust mods won't affect warranty in any way? Obviously excluding the actual exhaust.

Re: Exhaust options.
That's the million dollar question. I think it depends on the fault and the dealer but I'd like to think they take a sensible look especially if it is a sound mod and not for extra power.
Re: Exhaust options.
Never had any issues with exhaust changes with Audi. Infact when my R8 went in for gearbox issues they commented how great it sounded
I believe they would have to prove that any mod caused the damage. Eg if you change the exhaust and it melted the rear bumper because it was too close they could say no. I guess mapping is the most easy thing for them to decline as extra stress through the transmitsion system etc but exhaust, wheels etc isn't going to do much.

Re: Exhaust options.
I fully concur with the above. Never had a single issue with Audi when it comes to exhaust mods. The same goes for my remaps (last 3 Audi's), the dealer I use just isn't bothered.Andy_W wrote:Never had any issues with exhaust changes with Audi. Re: Exhaust options.
Good to hear. Not sure I would risk the remap, but sounds like exhaust won't be an issue. They probably won't even notice as my local dealer have been generally useless!

Re: Exhaust options.
This might be blasphemous, but I'm really not liking the pops and bangs...
Have the Akra on now, and the sound is great most of the time, and I'm very happy with it. However, as you'll all know, the standard car pops away on lift-off in sport or sport manual. The Akra is obviously the same, but louder.
It's too artificial for me, and also a bit ridiculous, for example going through villages in the middle of a cross country blast. I did 750 miles over the weekend, and have had enough!
So, can a remap get rid of this? It might be the best excuse for a power hike I can think of...

Re: Exhaust options.
Doesn't a quick pull of the lever to pop it into drive pretty much eliminate the pops while driving through the villages then another tug and back into sport mode once you're through them?

Re: Exhaust options.
It does, yes, but even when driving on my own, it's too contrived for my liking.
I'd like the response of sport/manual, and full exhaust noise, without the popping and banging. Too formulaic and contrived, IMO. exact same sounds every time you lift past a certain point on throttle.

Re: Exhaust options.
Capristo has independent control of the valves so you be in dynamic but with quiet exhaust.
Or stick a switch into the normal valves so you can control the akra independently.

Akrapovic do a switch Mike - https://www.akrapovic.com/#!/car/soundkitMikeFish wrote:Capristo has independent control of the valves so you be in dynamic but with quiet exhaust.

However, an independent switch is not going to sort out the pops and bangs aspect. I think changing the engine mapping is the only option which could resolve this, and it'd have to be a custom job as well.

Re: Exhaust options.
Know what you mean about the contrived noises of cars these days. My dad had a Boxster S with PSE and it was an amazing sounded car but was a little spoiled by the pops and bangs all the friggin' time.
Problem is, i've heard some of the modified cars on YouTube and they seem to retain the pops and bangs.

Re: Exhaust options.
Yes a normal remap will retain the pops as that's what most people want. If you want to get rid of them then it will need to be a custom map where you specifically ask for it to be removed.
