TMC help required!

Post by Wacko » Sat Jul 02, 2005 11:53 am

Hi all. I just purchased a 2004 TMC teleatlas disk for my '03 RS6.

I have nserted the disk, and it has installed and I can select destinations etc.

Problem is, the TMC does not seem to be activated. ALthough the little box on the map screen says "TMC", when I press the button with 3 cars on it it goes into the TMC menu and it says no traffic info. Also on the map there are no traffic symbols...

Am I doing anything wrong here? DO I need to activate something?

Cheers

I am waiting for the DVD version of this for my 6+ so can't really help but it may be there's no info at the weekend (seems unlikely though) and I understand Classic FM carries the info so maybe you need to put that in one of the radio memories?? Clutching at straws really!

Let us know how you get on with it please. Cheers, MartynC :?

I have two comments:

1) I find that after SatNav is activated, it can take quite a few minutes before TMC info is received.
2) The system only identifies REAL traffic problems and only on motorways. If there were no such problems in your area then everything was correct.

I thought that the TMC didn't work in the UK, only on the continent?? Is this not the case then.....am i missing out on something here? I assume i am correct in saying that this will plot a new course for you if it detects traffic jams ahead?

Yes, TMC is in the UK on one radio station (maybe Magic FM but I can't remember). It mostly only covers the motorways though. Yes it will plot a new course (if it receives the data in time!).

TMC in the UK uses Classic FM... The biggest problem in the UK is lack of coverage, much better in Europe.

I have a TMC disc in my wife's Espace (which is about 2.5 years old now) and it is really good. Seems to update fairly quickly and worked down into central France a few weeks ago when we took the trip. Still not available for DVD systems so I am told. Waiting for it for my 6+.

I understand TMC disc in the UK are about 50% more expensive than any other European countries as our government won't subsidise the cost!! More joined up thinking there then!

Anybody any news on DVD versions??

I'm using DVD, but it's a Kenwood system.

Is that a fairly new disc Phil? Time for me to ring the suppliers again perhaps.

Thanks for that. I've put an enquiry in to Audi Customer Service and will make some calls on Monday.
