A bit disappointed none of the detailing world crew got upset by it! That would've been entertaining,

That poor Q5 though, what a state. I've never understood how some people (mainly women in my experience) can take great pride in keeping their homes clean and tidy but are happy to drive around in something dirtier than my wheelie bin.

Spring detail

Thanks all really appreciated. Was a lot of effort and looks amazing in the flesh again!

Yep I (normally) use my PDI to check thickness but didn't this weekend as I knew what I'd taken off the last time it was machined (bugger all). For anyone else's car I'm very careful about paint thickness as I use a rotary. Anyone using a DA really doesn't have to worry - you'd have to be a complete ape to burn through with a DA! The only place I'm careful is when machining the front end as it has PPF on it. Although I've machines it a couple of times now it still feels odd machining the film so I am very careful. So far though, all good and no thickness changes there either.

Regarding the products, the Wolfgang stuff I am really into right now. It's a degrading product (no DK, it doesn't insult you as you polish) - so particles start aggressive then grind down to fine, meaning it's not unusual to be able to do a swirl removal stage that's practically final finish ready - in fact I've done just that on several cars now.
My hexlogic pads I get from eBay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/181890963756

Wolfgang products are made by menzerna (and I have a load of them) but find the Wolfgang really simple to use, and can be used on a multitude of sins.

Yes Graeme I do have a photo of my own car on the wall lol. It's a great photo of a great car with a really handsome driver. What's not to love.

That q5 write up is awesome. Genuinely LOL'd. Shame no one on DW bit really.

Paintwork looks awesome Ross. I'm pretty jealous. :notworthy:

My C7 looks like its done a stage of a rally at the minute, desperate to give it a good detail. I'm just putting the roof on my new garage this week and was contemplating a lift to put in it. the one you have looks spot on. Cheers for the link.

Whats the weight like for positioning it in the garage, is it easily manageable on your own or is it a two man job. Once I've decided on the right place to put it it'll be staying put, but I'm sure I'll want to tweak its location a few times while deciding wheres best.

The ramp was basically a huge nightmare to get in, but mostly because of the delivery company and my drive (gravel). They turned up, unannounced and without warning that they hadn't got a moffet just a regular pallet truck. Despite knowing they were delivering to a residential address expected me to have a forklift :drink:

Anyway - I used a load of boards and together with the (reluctant!) driver we manhandled the thing down the drive (luckily sloped towards the garage). Once inside, it was a slow but steady process of assembly. It weighs about 750kgs for shipping all in, and I put it together and located it on my own. I wish I hadn't... Get a friend to help for sure.

Cheers for the heads up Ross, I'll bear it in mind when purchasing. I've looked at a few different lifts, both new and second hand and the one you have seems to tick all the boxes.

I'll see if I can borrow a telehandler for delivery, but it would rely on having a confirmed date for the delivery to arrange. Anyway I'm jumping the gun, I need to finish the garage first.
