Spring detail

Post by RossDagley » Mon Mar 21, 2016 12:18 am

Spring is definitely upon us thankfully!

So - it's time for the spring detail. Just in time for my first ring trip of the year next weekend.

Prewash with valetpro ph neutral snowfoam.
Rinse.
TBM wash with lambs wool mitt, using meguiars NXT shampoo.
Wheels and brakes cleaned with ironx.
Rinse.
Clayed with nanoskin autoscrub machine pad.
Snowfoam and rinse.
Full two stage machine polish using my Flex 3401, first stage on a red hex pad with Wolfgang TSR V3, then Wolfgang FG V3 on a white hex pad.
12% IPA wipedown.
Two coats of Swissvax Best in Show.
Glass cleaned with Swissvax Crystal Glass.
Glass sealed all round with carbon collective platinum glass.
Wheels sealed with Swissvax Autobahn (applied by hand), tyres treated with Swissvax Pneu.
Interior vacuumed, plastics treated with Swissvax quick interior finish. Leather wiped only with damp cloth (my seats ALWAYS have a seat cover on so are like new).

Didn't take as many photos as I'd wished as wasn't expecting it to be such a big job (1.5 days) - turned out the winter hadn't been so kind to my paintwork, and my laziness had resulted in a few trips to the "scratch and wax" Polish over the winter. :(

My primary weapon of choice.

Before and after on door trims.

Image
After machining. No wax at this stage.

Image
Using a ramp to being the car to a comfortable working height is a godsend.

Image
Seems I'm starting to see pitting/corrosion on the tailpipe trims too ... :(

Image
Wheels now smell yummy too!

Image
Now she's waxed.

Image
Colour really pops in the sun.

Image
Or under leds...

That's all folks :)

You let someone else wash your car? Ross, you surprise me! Although I know you were poorly a while back

Yeah. A few trips to the sandy car wash I'm afraid when I've been in a hurry. With a real good sealant (the blackfire I normally use) you can get away with one or two and not suffer too bad. Unfortunately I had more than one or two over the winter lol.

Great work buddy looks stunning. Do you do paint thickness checks each time you detail?

That looks awesome mate, well done!

I like seeing what products people are using too for ideas. I need some iron X, and will try the valet pro foam once my bilt hamber stuff runs out.

Just looked up the Wolfgang stuff - looks interesting. How do you rate it vs other polishes? What hex pads do you use? I bought a polisher off a forum member and it came with 5 or 6 different compound menzerna polishes and unknown brand foam pads. If you think the Wolfgang stuff is good I might just get that as it seems simpler than trying to figure out where I start with this lot!
