Under the boot floor...

Post by bedlamater » Mon Mar 14, 2016 6:03 pm

Yet another question as I spec my new RS6, sorry.. Of the 4 cars that were in the showroom at the weekend 2 had a round space under the boot akin to somewhere where you could fit a space-saver wheel, however there was no space-saver wheel, just the puncture pump and handy storage space. The other 2 cars had a flat plastic cover under floor, so no handy storage space. You could lift this up but underneath was just bare car and a metal tank like cover over what I assume is the battery. What is this all about, was a bit of a mistery to all? Can I spec anything to guarantee that little bit of extra space?

Cheers

B

I think the cars with the flat space may have air suspension and the others DRC suspension?

If I'm right, DRC gives you the space.

Yes Anth is right, the air suspension takes up space under the boot floor so DRC cars will have more storage under there. Incidentally, that plastic lifts up and there is a bit more spoace under there, that is where the tool kit and jack live.

I know my DRC car has the space and bits underneath, but not the little tongs for pulling the wheel bolt covers off... for some reason.

Mine is on order (SS with DRC) so cannot answer the question but the absence of plastic tongs to remove the wheel bolt covers sounds strange. My spec includes Jack and toolkit and the tongs are surely part of that.

Out of interest, where is the battery located on models with SS / DRC option?

Thanks, I realised that but perhaps my question was wrongly worded. In my 2006 A6 Avant, the battery is located to the right side of the full size spare wheel that sits deep in the well. I am trying to find out if the battery position on a C7 with SS/DRC option is mounted centrally in the wheel well or to the right of same. Thanks

It is central towards the rear of the wheel well in mine, pretty much the same as my 2007 saloon.

Thanks Mike. Was yours originally on air before the conversion or SS/DRC? I know its a PITA, but any chance of a pic of the wheel well arrangement when you have 5? TIA

No mine came with DRC from factory. I doubt anyone would convert air to DRC, I would imagine this would be a PITA job.
My car is away being detailed at the moment so can't take any photos for you at the moment but I'll take some when I get it back if no one else has posted one before then.

Thanks again for that, much appreciated. FWIW, I misunderstood your conversion (changing springs) from another thread

Oh I see. No I just changed the standard Springs for shorter ones.
