Questions regarding options
Questions regarding options
Hi all,
New to the forum and new to Audi. I am about to embark on the RS6 journey with a new C7 via Carwow / hopefully local dealer.
I almost have the spec I need, but a few niggling questions remain which I would appreciate your views on:
1) Comfort Seats - would these, in your opinion, devalue the car in the longer term? I could either lose 4 stone before delivery, or go for the comfort seats.
2) Sports Exhaust Option - the Performance model I test drove had this and I really want a sports exhaust, but would I be better putting the £1k towards a Miltek performance exhaust and remap?
3) LED for entry area, quattro design - there is an option for wide or narrow 'plug'. Any idea what an RS6 C7 size is?
Spec so far:
- Sepang Blue with Lunar Silver (black only if comfort seats)
- 21" Wheels
- Pano roof
- Advanced Key / hands free boot
- Sports Exhaust
- Parking Pack
Thanks for any advice.
Regards
Pete

Re: Questions regarding options
I went through the same thoughts. All I added in the end was Panther Black and full keyless-go/boot
I went for the performance model as it gets you the glass/exhaust/pimpmyridewheels and saves you getting a serious aftermarket remap without worrying the warranty.
I think I am happy with the factory exhaust, it is good that you can leave the house early and not wake the road like my Aero Coupe does. It also means cruising is almost silent, it is very impressive. When speaking on the phone people do not realise I am in the car never mind doing XXmph.
Looking back I would add the surround parking cameras to protect the alloys, this car is quite big. Its fine when parking in normal slots but if you have wigglies going into underground car parks I get nervous. I think the Pano roof would be a good idea as it is quite dark inside after my E63 Estate which had a pano roof. Not a killer but probably good.
Also there are a couple of comments around re the wheel insurance - Audi offer it and it does cover the mirror finish rims on the PE in case you ask.

Re: Questions regarding options
The PE wheels don't have a mirror Diamond cut finish. They are painted 2 different colours rather than Diamond cut.
For me the sports exhaust is far too quiet. My wife takes the Mick cos her car sounds better and she is right. However I wanted the performance edition and it was part of the package.
The sports seats are not like the bucket seats of previous RS models so I'd imagine someone of any size could fit in them. Have you tried them yet?

HUD (essential for me even though it is a bit bodgy in the RS6)
Factory sports exhaust was fine on mine, loud enough.
I would stretch to the performance model, likely to depreciate a little less and the car is faster
Comfort access.
Sunroof is nice to have... although it adds weight.
Lose 4 stone

Re: Questions regarding options
Hi Pete.
Welcome and congrats on your proposed purchase. A few comments from a fellow newbie.
(1) comfort seats - I have not tried these nor even seen them and went for standard (black leather) seats. I am big-build and 17st. The standard seats are brilliant very comfy and have no issue at all - they are not "bucket" type seats and strike a good balance between grip and comfort in my opinion. As others point out, maybe you can find a dealer with an RS6 demo unit and try them out? Can't comment on the impact of resale value but the std seats look great - I can't imagine the comfort seats would look quite as good.
(2) I have the sports exhaust and do not regret it. It is not at all over-the-top, and is widely regarded as a must have option. Personally I don't favour aftermarket modifications due to warranty impact and insurance impact.
(3) not quite sure what you are asking here. The dimensions of the RS6 are in the PDF brochure that you can download from Audi website. The "Quattro" logo comes with a few of the exterior styling options like the "gloss black" styling that I got. Personally, I was not that worries about the Quattro logo but I liked the black styling.
The car is BIG. As a previous poster pointed out, the Advanced Parking pack is well worth the extra few hundred quid. Privacy glass, Audi Connect and the convenience pack are all options I recommend. The Pano sunroof I added just before build phase and do not regret it. The dynamic package is also a common option.
Congrats on your choice. You will love the car regardless of what options you add.

Re: Questions regarding options
Must haves for me were DRC. As mentioned, parking pack advanced is great, this is a big car. I heard this a lot before I bought mine and thought people were stating the obvious but it is a lot bigger than I thought.
And adaptive cruise is great if you do any motorway miles with all these average speed sections. And active brake guard (which is active even when cruise control is off) could save you one day!

Re: Questions regarding options
HI chaps,
Many thanks for the detailed opinions. I have my dealer pricing up both the PE and non-PE editions, but either way, the sports exhaust is a must.
I think that I will add the 360 degree camera based on feedback here - thanks!
I know that this is a tricky question, but driven sensibly, what is a realistic average mpg in the RS6? I'm coming from a Lexus GS450h which returns 32mpg even when I've driven it like I've stolen it. I am hoping that the RS6 would give me 25+ with some combined local and motorway miles - is that unrealistic?
Cheers!
Pete

Re: Questions regarding options
Personally I've never seen more than 23mpg but Most of my journeys are short and or fast so my usual is 14-15mpg. On a run at a steady 80mph I'd say you would see 25+mpg but not with local miles.hdpete wrote:HI chaps,

But that's going off my personal experience, others will differ.
Re: Questions regarding options
As far as 'justification' for the wife, that'll do nicely anth8910!
Re: Questions regarding options
I am struggling to see the benefit of Audi Connect, particularly with an Iphone 6 which I don't believe supports remote SIM.
Has anyone got Audi Connect with an iPhone and what does it do for you? I do like my gadgets, but I'm not sure if I'd regret not getting this.

You're correct in that you need a SIM for the car. I like it though, I'd order it again.
You see mid 20s the majority of the time. If you drive like you stole it, single figures.

Re: Questions regarding options
Without Audi connect there are no google satellite images on the nav display (which, after the novelty has worn off, are not that useful, actually) and there is no google searching, which i would miss. Also, I love the 4G hotspot in the car; I think that is also an Audi Connect feature? Best to check the full range of features on the internet.
If you have an iPhone you can still put a data SIM in the dash and get Audi Connect Services.

Re: Questions regarding options
On a carefully driven motorway journey, I can get up to 30mpg if I am careful. On most long motorway journeys I average 26mpg; I get about 23mpg on a motorway journey when I want to get home quickly (officer). My long-term average is about 22mpg, but almost all my mileage is on motorways.
Re: Questions regarding options
26-28 long motorway journeys. 16-18 short trips locally.
Average over first 6000 miles mixed use = 22mpg

Re: Questions regarding options
My record was 32.0mpg on a 300 mile motorway journey. It was a wet day with lots of surface water and I was in no rush so thought I would play a game and see what I could get out of it (oh god I sound like my dad). Single passenger, me, and say 25kg of luggage. Driving South to North with what I suspect was a tail wind. Kept it to 60-65mph most if the way (due to traffic and surface water) and had the usual miles and miles of 50mph roadworks. The car was on '99 fuel and was still within its burn-in period.
Other than this I'd concur with an average of 22-23 on mixed use. It's been said before that no-one buys this car for its fuel economy but to be fair it's not bad given its weight and engine size.
It's odd ... since getting the car I seem to drive - on average - slower than I did before. I guess driving a car that will beat 99% of the rest of the cars in the country means one has less to prove. Or I could just be getting old !
