ACC functionality
ACC functionality
Has anyone downgraded ACC using VCDS? It might not be possible..... I'm simply not a fan and I wondered if it can be reset to boggo CC..... Some cars give you the choice of ACC or CC functionality, but not sure about the RS4..... Or I'll be looking for one with the regular tech pack. Thanks

Wow - I had ACC on my Range Rover sport on an '06 plate and it was definitely more a concept than a reality, it would regularly <beep> itself when it came close to big vehicles in the lane to my left - and by <beep> itself I mean it would pile on the brakes like i was heading for a brick wall..... although even saying that - some objects it would just ignore making for white knuckle experiences.....
.... Moving to my more Recent B8 which i did 12000 miles in, an awful lot on the motorway - the ACC was like a completely different tool, accurate, comfortable, safe, life saver when someone calls you, makes the m25 better than usual....
Also if you get the tech pack, the ACC enables the Collision protection stuff, which works all the time - and is just brilliant, for two reasons, firstly if you drive too close to the car infront the B8 warns you, makes us RS drivers look much less like ..... and as I have found out on the twistys, is bloody brilliant if you come round a corner to find something to deal with infront of you.
Fact is I like it so much it is on the RS6 spec I have ordered

I have to agree with Boff, although im 80/20 on it... its great and i love how easy it makes travel, or when someone pulls out etc, the three things that annoy me one being only minor and the other two bieing quite annoying.
one - It takes too long to re-accellarate the car after someones moved out your way, that is my main bugbear with the ACC granted mines a bit older as its on a C6 but if i could speed up the response time it would make it a hell of a lot nicer to use.
Two - It senses cars infront as its supposed too but sometimes it starts to slow you down too early as in long before you would usually pull out to overtake a car so you have to adapt your overtakes so the radar doesnt slow you down... not a huge deal but sometimes causes frustration if traffic is a little bit busy.
Third - This ones an occasional, if your on a tightish bend and it catches site of the car in the inside lane that your passing it'll slam the anchors on and then release which leads to a frustrated drive behind you.
But this really only happens on tight long sweeping bends and its only if your unlucky enough to catch the inside vehicle on an exact angle to upset the radar..

I have it on the C7 and its brilliant. I agree with Tom, it takes long to accelerate back up to speed. The other issue of slowing down too early can be negated slightly by lowering the minimum distances.
And the car on a bend is documented in the manual as something that will occur in such circumstances. Hasn't happened to me yet but I imagine it is annoying.
I have had the brake guard go off once when someone broke suddenly (didn't have ACC on at the time).
I don't understand why you'd want to use normal CC over ACC though? Does it work the same other than it brakes if you get too close which you'd have to do anyway with normal CC. Unless of course any of the above issues are so annoying to you in which case fair enough, but for the biggest issue with normal CC is having to adjust the speed with the stalk or keep resetting it and ACC fixes this for me.

ACC functionality
There are a couple of settings for ACC configurable within Drive Select setup IIRC. One is for Automatic and one is for Dynamic - I have mine in Automatic mode but am wondering if Dynamic ACC setup would speed re-acceleration up when car in front pulls back in?

Thanks guys, interesting responses. Yes, I'm serious. My experiences of ACC systems are similar to Toms second point, hence the frustrations and also why CC is my particular preference. It's very easy to find yourself gradually slowed to the speed of a car in front on a dual c or m'way when you know you probably wouldn't have pulled out so far in advance.... We all have choices and we all like different things 
Given ACC's integration with braking systems/collision warning mechanisms, it sounds like the short answer is to find myself a car without advanced tech.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a workaround to get it working as you want with VCDS. Might be worth looking into if you are struggling to find a car with the exact spec you want.

Geoff, but have you actually driven the latest Audi ACC? On say a B8 rs4 or C7 rs6?

Wow. My main complaint with ACC is how FAST it picks up speed after slowing down.
IE, in lane 2 doing 90mph, car in front pulls out doing 70mph, ACC slows the car correctly. Car in front pulls back over, my car takes off like a scolded cat - enough to wake the missus up who's asleep - to get back up to 90mph!
How odd you guys should say the opposite - I wonder if that's a setting somewhere. Possibly I have it in 'dynamic' or something when I shouldn't.

Interesting Ross, mine is in dynamic but maybe there is setting for ACC angryness like RS-Four alluded to above.

Hang on, maybe I was in dynamic but had the gearbox in D rather than S and therefore in a higher gear.

mine isn't enough to drop a gear, but (imagine) you'd put it in manual (stick to the left) then stamped on the go pedal whilst in 7th... It's just a bit ... bwwwwaaahhh.... BWWWAAAAHHH!!!!!

I didnt mean the car changed gear but at any given speed the car is normally in a lower gear in S mode so when the car goes to catch up it will do so a bit quicker than if it was already in a higher gear.
