Loving the ramp! You bought a set of winters to go out playing in the snow?RossDagley wrote:Will make detailing a pleasure not a chore and wheel swaps
As mentioned previously, I know the lanes to the north / west of your place well from road cycling, and there some are great single track lanes to drift around when it snows and you want to practice getting the arse out without any other cars about....

Don't be silly - I have a Clio for dicking about in I'm too scared of crashing the Audi. It'll be pretty much winterised once the bad weather starts in earnest!Ian_C wrote:Loving the ramp! Nice one Ross - had my eye on an Automotech for ages.... just haven''t pulled the trigger on one yet.
Any drawbacks with it? Guess you'll put some planks over the middle section if you need to work/lie underneath....
Can it run off a 13A plug or does it need more power?

Re: Home garages.
Can't think of any drawbacks really yet - I've serviced my 206 today (and rotated the tyres) and it was a doddle! Wheels at waist height to remove. Lordy how nice that was! Will be fitting a new back box on it also tonight as that's blowing. The only negative is I wish it was lower profile (although this is the lowest profile one I could find). My 206 is ironically lower than the RS4 somehow (probably just knackered suspension!) so there's no room underneath for the rubber lifting blocks between the ramps and the sills of the car. So I just lifted the car anyway - the whole sill is taking the weight and it seems fine, but it's not ideal and certainly not suited for all cars! The alternative to lowering the ramp into the ground would be to drive up on little blocks of wood before and after the ramp (and again, I've seen others do this) - that'd soon sort itGeoff A wrote:Nice one Ross - had my eye on an Automotech for ages.... just haven''t pulled the trigger on one yet.

I could indeed put some wood forming over the middle (I've seen some guys do that on other garage threads) and it does tidy it all up nicely, but for now I don't know what I'd need access to the very middle of the car for - most of the stuff I can think of I want to do is suspension and so on (I've got some drop links to do on a car for example). So it doesn't get in the way at all
Yep runs off 13A plug (wasn't supplied fitted but I checked the spec and it's fine for it). Also needs an air supply (for releasing the safety locks) - 6 to 8 bar pressure, so any workshop compressor can easily do that. I have a 200l compressor in the garage in a sound proofed box already along with some plumbed in hardlines - but I do need to now extend these to the new ramp control unit.
Some ideas:

Some RaceRamps might help:

End goal:

Honestly get one. It was a bit of a faff getting it all in and setup (just really REALLY heavy working on my own!) but now I can only see it improving my quality of garage life!

Re: Home garages.
Yep, I'm liking the 'end goal', but thats too much work and while my garage is little wider and longer than a std single, I need ramp mobility, rather than be fixed to one position. I want it primarily for my TVR, as I'm often tinkering over-winter when the car is SORN'd. But jacking stuff up and messing about with blocks of wood is getting a little tricky and tiresome. And like your Pug, my TVR is a low rider, but nothing a few pieces of wood won't sort on approach.
It looks a peach. Got a compressor anyway, so it looks like I just need to sort delivery to Oxfordshire and get a few litres of hydraulic oil.....

Re: Home garages.
Did the drop links on the 206 this evening.
Drive in to drive out was 20 minutes (and that included having to angle grind off the bottom joint as the nuts on both sides were seized). Would have taken me 20 minutes to get it up on axle stands before lol
Also had my mates S3 round to diagnose a weird rattle. Had it up and down on the ramp like a yoyo (4-5 times) whilst we tried to get to the rattle from the top and bottom of the engine bay. Would have been a bloody nightmare on axle stands!
Still mega happy with it.

Re: Home garages.
Ross, is it either fully up or fully down or can you control how high to raise it each time?

Re: Home garages.
Yep full control of height from minimum to max. It's not especially easy to set an exact height (the ramp moves pretty quick, especially coming down) but absolutely you can pick a height. On the s3 tonight I needed it arms length up from the ground so I could comfortably reach the turbo. Sorted

Re: Home garages.
Do you find the ramps hinder getting to some stuff though? Our 4 poster at work is worse than axle stands sometimes cause the ramps block access. 2 poster ramps with movable arms are waaaay better. Still, the above is great compared to nothing and bloody good value.

Re: Home garages.
Nothing yet - but I've only had it a few days. On ramps I've used before, I can't think of anything I'd need access to that the ramp will block. Maybe an under-car fuel pump or fuel filter possibly? brake lines if you were redoing them for sure might be blocked. But for me as a part-time detailer and enthusiastic hobbyist it's ideal I think

Re: Home garages.
I was thinking about putting one of these in my garage but decided against it as it would restrict some items. I'm happy with my axle stands for now.
