There was mention here before about certain stealers having PE stock orders available. Which stealers, please?

I think, generalising, it is psychologically worse to lease a depreciating asset. Not only do you lose depreciation you lose interest on top.

It all depends on the deal on the table. A work colleague recently leased a VW. The cost to lease the car was actually lower than paying the full amount in cash so it would have been pointless to pay cash ... all it did was tie up the cash which he could potentially invest elewhere for a return. The lease on the PE RS6 I've been looking at recently would have cost a large chunk so if I do it I will pay cash. I would imagine a lot of people here lease the car through their company and get the 50% VAT saving which can be pretty handy on a new RS6!

Surely nobody's running one of these through a company. The bik would be painful, whatever the tax rate?

These weren't stocks orders but actual cars. I didn't do a count but I think it was around 20ish cars available that are at dealers and around another 20ish on there way or being built.

The list was for the whole country so I can't remember where they all were. I do remember there was a Sepang one at Ipswich Audi and two Daytona grey ones at Sheffield/Lincoln/Grimsby/Hull/Doncaster/Boston (all in the same group).

We had ours stolen back in July. I contacted Audi UK for such a list and they insisted they couldn't tell me what orders were going where. No matter how much I explained my situation about not wanting to wait 3 months on order they wouldn't budge and would not tell me what cars were in the UK dealers and if any were on order!

Audi City have a black one. Leicester have a white one. Poole have a grey one. Blackburn had a white one but sold it and have another one on the way.
These are demo cars but I assume they will sell them if you want them.

I don't know why Audi UK didn't want to help. You can effectively walk into any dealer and they would have access to this list. However, I don't think many of them are going to tell you where you can get a particular car from if they can't sell you it themselves.

My dealer insisted that as almost all dealerships are franchised they could only see what cars were in their group. Same excuse from Audi UK. Didn't matter in the end as we got it back few days later but frustrating at the time

They are right - they are unable to see downstream to the resellers in detail.

Dealer commits to XX number per year and so gets slots. If they don't sell them in advance then thy get to the date where they have to fix them and then they become stock cars. Larger chains of dealers like Inchcape have more dealers and so more slots using the law of averages. So if the slot is not taken it can be "moved" from branch to branch.

When the order is placed on Audi they cannot tell directly if the order is a customer one or stock one. Uness Audi finance is used then they might have a view but in theory should not as AudiFS is a separate company and so should not share your details. So they cannot guide on slots easily. Each chain/dealership will have its own process.

Just get your best price then phone couple of the larger chains and say if you can match this price and offer a shorter slot then you have the deal. Find out their slot time and then tell the insurance to pony up.

Same applied to the deal i got on my F10 M5. My outlay will be at the very worst 60% of the likely depreciation of the car over the 3yrs so paying cash would have been a very foolish way forward as i'd be many thousands of ££'s out of pocket. This however only really works when you jump on the crazy deals like the S8 a few weeks/months ago, the Golf R a year or so ago, the M5 & E63 2-3yrs ago etc. & their have been others.

The only bugbear about leasing though Paul is that you are tied to the contract and cannot sell the car before the term is up without severe financial penalty. PCP wise, you can sell the car and move on whenever you wish. I think I'd be bored with an S8 after a few months, a Golf R about a day and my F10 M5 relationship was disastrous with an engine failure, luckily I managed to reject the car and walkaway. (1000m on the clock, defect in one of the rods) - I never gelled with the M5 at all.
