Wheel / tyre gurus please

Post by RossDagley » Wed Jan 27, 2016 10:40 am

So I'm soon to be in the market for new tyres.

Wait! This isn't the normal "what tyre" thread! :p

I've had a moment of madness but don't know if these will work. Currently on 265/30/20. Naturally I'm drawn towards the PSS's.

Then I see R888R's (new r888's) are available on a 20" rim. Only they're 285/35/20.

Is it a bad idea? The "will they fit" website indicates a change in ride height I'm not keen on but width wise I think they'll go.

Daft idea?

S**t the bed they're expensive tyres! >£390 ea according to demon tweaks..

A good alternative might be the Pirelli (bear with me!) Trofeo R 245 35 ZR20 (95Y). It's a bit awkward with width options in a 20" tyre, the next size is 305!

You would be better off getting a dedicated set of track wheels/tyres. 18-19" with a higher profile would be better for track, and more choice with sizes.

Yeah you're probably right si as usual. I should have thought of that. Cost to buy a set of 19"s is saved in NOT buying these tyres I guess!

And then I can stick to tyres I know and love.

Good idea.

Sounds good, let us know what you end up with. I was thinking about a set for the barge, I can't ride my bike at the mo due to health reasons, so I've done a few track days with the RS but it usually ends up with a lot of sideways action and wrecked tyres lol. Its a lot of weight to be navigating tight bends at speed, it did great on the ring but that's mostly fast flowy corners I guess.

Might have to look into getting a cheap 90s jap sports car for track days :D

I know from past comments on here ill get shot down but ......I've got a set of Pirelli P zeros on mine , I paid £121 each fitted . Not every ones choice but I think there miles better than the conti sports I had on it before . Not much road noise and much like the yokohama parada's once warm their excellent .

I respect them for how fast they can be... But no lol. I definitely want a rwd, something like an s14 silva, or maybe even an RX7. Or GT86 if I found a cheap wreck that could be turned into a track car (2jz swap anyone?)

In reality I'm pretty broke due to getting the RS into shape! It does return the love though, well pleased I ended up with it :D
