Smurfbus,

I went with Kumhos again, £64 each for 225/40/18 rubber.

I got about 12K per pair of fronts and the rears have 3-4mm left. However I'm always really heavy on tyres, so was quite pleased with the mileage, my punto GT does 4-6K per pair of fronts and 10K for rears. My 205 GTI is currently wearing Toyos.

I like Yokos but they didn't last very long, all Pirellis are shocking in the wet, IMO. Won't have them anywhere near any of my cars.

Be interested in how long the Michelins PS2 last, especially if they last well and are quieter than the Toyos. If they will do 20K on a set then I'm with Dippy they might be worth the extra dosh. Probably closer to £700 for all four in 18" though....

My previous Toyos and Michelins didn't last any longer than the cheaper Continentals admittedly on different cars. Conti's are amazingly consistent wet or dry tyre.

Only fitted Kumhos on someones recomendation and have to say they are living up to his words. Excellent cheap tyres. Scooby owner but apart from that a nice guy!

Well I had Kumhos on the S4 and they where <beep>.....no grip wet or dry (Kumho 712 I think). My front Michelin Sports are at 3mm after 18K miles including 3 track days and the rears at 4mm.

Personally I always go for a safe wet weather tyre for UK roads - you’ve really got to be pushing your car in the dry to find your tyre limits, but in the wet you can find the limit all too easily.

In the past I’ve tried plenty of track days on road tyres and in the wet the two tyres that stand out are the Toyo Proxes T1-S and Goodyear F1 GSD3’s - I still attribute a 360° on a very wet Craner Curves to Bridgestone S02’s

I currently have a set of Goodyear F1 GSD3’s on my S4, and am very pleased with wet and dry performance, but will be trying the new Toyo Proxes T1-R next time round.

As for Nankang, my wife’s Audi came with them on RS4 style 18” alloys – I didn’t do a track day, but grip on wet roads was terrible. The wear rate also seemed higher and when the sidewalls started to bulge abnormally I decided enough was enough and put a set of Toyo Proxes T1-S on the car (money well spent).

I've found conti sport contacts very good , my mate has just fitted a pair of uniroyal rain sports on the front of his zafira gsi ( 265 bhp) & thinks they are much better than the goodyear f1's he did have . will see how long they last as the fi's only lasted 5000m !!!!!

Yes they're quieter than the Toyos I had.

I had to replace 2 tyres this week only 'cos I had a puncture. But based on the wear rate I think I'll get over 20K from them. My driving is moderately hard on tyres, especially with my suspension setup.

When I bought my original 4 PS2s last year I got 4 for under £500. This week I paid £300 for 2. (225/40/18).

Thanks for all the advice guys - I decided to spend the money and go for the Conti Sport Contacts (4x235/40/18 fitted and balanced for £560).
I'll let you know how I get on.

I had toyos t1-s on my s4 when I got it, stuck like glue to the road even right up to when they were nackered, would buy again. actually I'm getting some oz superleggeras with t1-s's on next week so I'll be able to compare mich ps2's to toyos back to back. The ps2s are really good tyres, have lasted well and seem to just keep gripping no matter how much I give them, I've had the car sliding round rounabouts all day and they still keep working. The wet performance is the best I've ever experienced.

So in conclusion we all like different tyres, pay diffent prices and get different wear rates, cleared that up nicely then.

Had AVS on a bmw 328i seemed good grip and noise though they were soft,I had Pirrelli Assimetricos on 944 Turbo S and did not rate them they would "let go" very quickly.
Also had Goodyear F1's which transformed the car(another 944 t) the previuos tyres were budget performance things Ventus I think.
Had Dunlop Sport 3000,s on my Skoda vRS which were good.
Just had Toy T1's but on the S4 Avant not done many miles in it yet so we I will let you lot know.

Sorry, cant agree with your conclusion KayGee.
Noting with respect your own experience with Yokohomas, the general consensus on here is cheap tyres=<beep> are Goodyear F1 and Michelin PS are best all round perfomers.
(Just dont ask why I went for the Conti's!)
